“Here we go!”: United miss out on long-term target as bitter rival strikes deal for 26-yo French wizard – Fabrizo Romano

Tottenham Hotspur are set to sign long-term Manchester United target Randal Kolo Muani after agreeing a loan deal with Paris Saint-Germain, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Long-term target at Old Trafford

The Red Devils have been linked with a move for Kolo Muani, 26, on multiple occasions in recent years.

In the summer of 2023, where United ultimately decided to sign Rasmus Hojlund in a transfer worth a potential £72 million, Kolo Muani was also high on the club’s list of targets.

But the capture of Hojlund from Atalanta allowed PSG to strike a £77m deal with Eintracht Frankfurt for the France international.

It’s safe to say neither move has worked out for the respective forwards or clubs with United agreeing a loan for Hojlund last week to join Serie A champions Napoli.

And it’s now Kolo Muani’s turn to complete an exit after Spurs reached an agreement with PSG over a season-long loan.

United had reportedly made advances to sign the 26-year-old forward earlier this month as INEOS continued to plot upgrades for Amorim’s misfiring attack.

But Kolo Muani is said to have rejected this interest as he was instead focused on completing a switch to Juventus, where he spent the second half of last season on loan.

The Old Lady were unable to agree a deal with PSG this summer for him to return, however, and launched a successful move for RB Leipzig frontman Lois Openda as an alternative.

Spurs reach agreement with PSG

Juventus dropping out of the hunt for Kolo Muani allowed Spurs to jump the queue for Kolo Muani, who moved quickly to further strengthen new manager Thomas Frank’s forward line after the arrival of Mohammed Kudus and Xavi Simons earlier this summer.

The Lilywhites had also expressed serious interest in Bryan Mbeumo, but the Cameroonian only had eyes for Old Trafford and rejected the offer from north London.

But where a deal for Mbeumo failed, the pursuit of Kolo Muani has ended in success, though there is no indication United entered the fray on deadline day for their long-term target. Perhaps if they had, the Frenchman would have chosen the same path as the Cameroonian.

Romano confirms the “loan move until June 2026” for Kolo Muani with his trademark “here we go!” seal of approval.

United travel to north London to play Spurs on November 8 meaning the Red Devil fanbase will get to watch the French forward up close at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium and decide whether he was a missed opportunity or not.
