Manchester United Women ensured a winning start to our new WSL campaign with a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Leicester City at Leigh Sports Village.

Goals from Melvine Malard (two), Ella Toone and Elisabeth Terland helped to yield a positive opening on home soil, on a wet and windy afternoon.

Missed any of the key takeaways from the game? Fear not. Out handy round-up provides all the details on Player of the Match, Marc Skinner’s thoughts and another chance to see the goals.

Scroll down to delve right in…

SKINNER’S REACTIONHaving only just recently returned from UEFA Champions League duty in Stockholm, Skinner praised the high standards his side showed at Leigh Sports Village, despite having little time to prepare.

A busy deadline day also had an effect on the Reds’ preparation for the game as the boss explained to MUTV’s Ben Ibson after the game.

“[It is a] really professional start, after a tough week as well for us. But the quality and the play and stuff today just showed it is almost quicker than it should be right away.

“So the girls have hit the ground running [and it was] a really solid performance and four goals.

“[It] should have been more goals as well, which is really, really pleasing. But another clean sheet, which we love here. All in all, a really good day. The only other problem was the rain!”
