Retired Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves praised his former club despite their inability to clinch the win in a nerve-racking 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest, directing some compliments at one player in particular. Having come off a three-game winning streak, expectations were sky-high for Man United, who were paying a visit to a struggling Forest side that started the day in the relegation zone on the Premier League table. Unfortunately for Ruben Amorim’s team, it was a more difficult afternoon than expected, with Forest putting ample pressure on United throughout the encounter to seal a well-earned draw. Despite the disappointing result, Hargreaves was able to draw some positive conclusions from the match. United’s excellent team chemistry For Hargreaves, Amad’s spectacular late goal was a testament to United’s team chemistry. “There’s a point where Bruno says to Amad, ‘You’re a little out of position.’ What have you got to do? You’ve got to listen to your boss,” Hargreaves remarked, referring to Bruno Fernandes’ leadership. “To be fair to Amad, it’s only fractions, but they must have worked this on the training ground, and it’s so good.” “Exactly where he [Fernandes] tells him [Amad] to stand is where the ball comes, and he finished absolutely brilliantly,” Hargreaves concluded. Still, Hargreaves didn’t hold back his praise for the rest of the team when pressed about their performance. Highlighting United’s character Hargeaves was then asked whether he thought United should be disappointed about coming away with just a point. “Yeah, obviously, you want to win the game, but I think going 2-1 down, I think a point away is not a bad result,” the former United midfielder declared. Still, Hargeaves’ assessment of the match was not all roses. When asked about United falling short of expectations, he admitted that the team left a lot to be desired, especially in the second half. “Once they took the lead, they kind of stopped playing, didn’t they?” Hargreaves added. Ultimately, it wasn’t a result United would be happy with, particularly after defeating the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool, and Brighton this season. Still, the team enjoyed some bright moments during their close encounter at the City Ground, which will certainly give them motivation to show more urgency when they visit Tottenham Hotspur next weekend.
