“Happy to …“: Di Marzio provides definitive update on United’s dream reunion plans

Manchester United crashed to a 0-1 defeat in their Premier League opener against Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Despite a dominating performance, the hosts had to leave empty-handed due to a humongous error from goalkeeper Altay Bayindir.

The Turk was handed the chance to start in between the sticks with Andre Onana yet to regain full fitness.

Ruben Amorim backed the backup goalie to come good, but deep down, he will be aware of the need to strengthen his options in goal.

Goalkeeping howler

Both the Cameroonian and the Turkiye international have been culpable for high-profile mistakes, and it is high-time INEOS act.

Rather surprisingly, there were reports linking legendary former keeper David de Gea with a return to the Theatre of Dreams following a hugely successful debut campaign for Fiorentina.

But Gianluca Di Marzio has poured cold water on those dreams, claiming the Spaniard has no intention of jumping ship so soon. He still has three years left on his current deal.

“Robin Gosens and David de Gea remain in Florence: the latest on the two players’ futures.

“In the last few days of the transfer window, Gosens and de Gea have been linked with Atalanta and Manchester United, respectively.

“In England, there has been talk of a possible return to Old Trafford for the Spanish goalkeeper, but the player’s intentions are different.

De Gea update

“David de Gea was one of the best goalkeepers in the 2024/25 Serie A season, and he wants to continue delighting Fiorentina fans with his saves. The Spanish goalkeeper has a three-year contract, running until June 30, 2028, and is happy to continue wearing the Viola jersey.”

United should not be looking back, instead they should be trying to move on their non-performing duo and bring in fresh blood.

After all, De Gea was not the most assured in his last few seasons, which had forced then-manager Erik ten Hag to act. There are better names available on the market.

Gianluigi Donnarumma, Senne Lammens, and Emiliano Martinez are among the names linked with a switch to Manchester. Hopefully, INEOS will act before the window slams shut. Amorim needs all the help he can get.
