Guide to Premier League’s opening weekend

The start of the 2025/26 Premier League season feels a lot closer, following the announcement of the full fixture list.

The appetite has already been whetted for the top-flight campaign with the news that Manchester United will begin Ruben Amorim’s first full term in charge with an exciting encounter against Arsenal at Old Trafford.

Mikel Arteta’s Gunners finished runners-up to Liverpool in 2024/25 and head to the Theatre of Dreams to resume one of the sport’s greatest rivalries of recent times.

The showdown will be screened live by Sky Sports in the UK at 16:30 BST on Sunday 17 August.

It is our ninth home opener in a row but the first time we have started against Arsenal since before the dawn of the Premier League, the entertaining 4-1 victory back in 1989.

The big kick-off is at Anfield, as Liverpool host Bournemouth on Friday 15 August, while the action the following day includes Sunderland marking their return to the top division by facing West Ham United at the Stadium of Light, Aston Villa entertaining Newcastle United and Manchester City travelling to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The appetiser on Sunday before we face Arsenal is an all-London affair, with Chelsea taking on Emirates FA Cup holders Crystal Palace, at Stamford Bridge.

The final match of the first gameweek is newly promoted Leeds United ushering in Premier League football at Elland Road again by tackling David Moyes’s Everton.
