‘Great attitude, good quality’: Maddison reckons it’s clear as day why Amorim ‘trusts’ United star so much

James Maddison has poured praise on Mason Mount after the midfielder was granted his seventh start of the campaign at Molineux.Ruben Amorim opted to restore Mount to the starting XI this evening for Manchester United’s away clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers.Amorim being careful with Mount’s minutes(Photo by Shaun Botterill/Getty Images)It came after Mount completed his first 90 minutes in the Premier League for United in their win over Crystal Palace just over a week ago, during which he netted the winning goal to help seal the side’s first win at Selhurst Park since 2020.Then, however, he made only a 12-minute appearance off the bench in the 1-1 draw with West Ham last Thursday, with fans assuming Amorim is adamant about the player avoiding any further injury setbacks.Unrelenting layoffs have plagued Mount’s United career thus far; he has already missed a whopping 50 matches across all competitions in his two-and-a-half seasons at Old Trafford.Yet, the fact that he’s now been able to oversee an extended period of availability could mean he now has the chance to put his fitness woes behind him and try and stake his claim for a permanent spot in Amorim’s side. What Maddison had to say about Mount(Photo by Julian Finney/Getty Images)Maddison certainly thinks his compatriot is on course to be a nailed-on starter under the Portuguese coach, as he told the panel on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football segment: “You get that feeling that he [Amorim] trusts him [Mount] and stuff. “He’s obviously had, like I said, a couple of injuries, which have probably halted a bit of the progress.“Whenever he’s available, he’s in there [the team], and he might be being managed a little bit, but he’s a player who, like I said, has got a great attitude, will run really hard for the team, and a player of good quality, and when you have them things, you play at this level.”
