“Going to be tough”: United star outlines potential issue with Amorim’s style

Manchester United’s summer signing Noussair Mazraoui has given a defiant message of hope that the club will get back to the top under new head coach Ruben Amorim.

The Moroccan has been in scintillating form this season and has taken to life in the Premier League like a duck to water. Consequently, United officials reportedly believe he is one of the strongest signings the club has made in years.

His latest fine showing came against Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League where he provided an assist for Rasmus Hojlund and excelled in an unfamiliar back three role.

Speaking to The Daily Express he claimed that “I came here to win – and it will come. Manchester United is too big not to. Everyone here knows that, everybody sees that and everybody feels that – especially us as players.

“We are going to come back – and we are going to come back even harder.”

The Moroccan full back did admit that even though he sees success as inevitable, it may take time to grow due to Amorim’s drastically different playing style to previous coach Erik ten Hag.

“But I think that when you want to implement a new style of play that isn’t even close to how we played before, no-one can expect us to understand everything the manager has in his mind right from the start.”

“So yes, of course, this is going to be a tough time – but come on, we are all top players and we play the game to win.”

The 27 year old asserted that the club still has ambitions this season to compete but that these also have to be tempered with a bout of realism.

“Of course you always have to believe you can challenge. Without that belief, for me personally, I think you should stop. Without belief you will not achieve anything.”

“We still have our goals, but we’re not stupid. We know what phase we’re in and the most important thing is that we continue to improve our style of play and eventually we will see what that gives us.”

The versatile defender claimed that getting the first win under their belts for Amorim was vital and they hope to kick on, starting with Everton later today.

After the midweek match, Amorim was gushing with praise for the Moroccan, calling him the “future” of the club and that they needed more players of his ilk.

Responding to his new manager’s praise he said, “it’s a big compliment to hear the coach say nice things. What can I say? I try my best every day and in every game. I give my all for the team, for the coach and for the supporters.”

Mazraoui finished by claiming that whilst playing in a new position in a three man defence involves a learning curve, he is prepared to adapt for the team. He also claimed that getting used to his new responsibilities is “10-times easier”, as he is playing alongside his long-term teammate, Matthijs de Ligt, who also joined the club from Bayern Munich this summer.

The Moroccan will hope to continue his rich vein of form as United face an action-packed schedule of nine games over the course of December.

Alex is a huge Manchester United fan, inspired by greats of his homeland such as George Best, Harry Gregg and Norman Whiteside. Proud owner of such niche shirts such as Kleberson, Eric Djemba-Djemba and Gary Neville. Grew up pretending to be Ruud van Nistelrooy and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the back garden, with little success.
