Manchester United legend Gary Neville has detailed why Benjamin Sesko’s last-gasp winning goal vs. Fulham is more significant to the striker than the three points. United headed into the game full of confidence, having beaten Manchester City and Arsenal. They got off to a positive start as Casemiro broke the deadlock in the 19th minute. The Brazilian midfielder rose highest to head in a superb delivery from Bruno Fernandes. Casemiro turned provider after the interval, slipping in Matheus Cunha with a stunning no-look ball. Cunha made no mistake, smashing home from a tight angle. It looked like the Red Devils were headed for a comfortable victory until Harry Maguire conceded a penalty. Raul Jimenez stepped up to take the spot-kick and made no mistake to reduce the deficit. Kevin made it 2-2 with a screamer to break the hearts of United supporters. But it was Sesko who delivered the decisive blow. Coming off the bench, he burst into the area, controlled Fernandes’s delivery, pivoted, and fired an unstoppable shot past Leno. The strike marked Sesko’s fifth goal in the Premier League this season. Speaking on Sky Sports’ The Gary Neville Podcast, Neville explained that beyond sealing the win, the goal will bode well for Sesko’s confidence after a “difficult” start to life at Old Trafford. Neville’s reaction Neville said, “And then when they scored that second goal, I was like, ‘Oh my goodness gracious.’” “Then if you just said you wanted one player to score a goal, if anybody, any United fan, any United coach would have said, I want one player to score a goal, it would be Sesko because he’s had a real difficult time since he’s come to the club.” “Cunha and then Mbeumo just look like Manchester United players straight away. The way in which they take the ball, they attack defenders.” “Amad’s come back from the from AFCON looking really strong and Bruno’s in great form.” The former United captain continued, “So, you’ve got that front four that looks like it’s established, with [Patrick] Dorgu who I’ve not even mentioned. So, he looked like he was just playing a bit part role, but that will be so big for Sesko to score a winning goal at the Stretford End.” “A very important day for Manchester United, very important day for Michael Carrick and a glorious sort of end to the game, which is typical of Manchester United historically where they sort of, you know, make it very hard for themselves.” “But then go and score the late winner and it was a good work down that he let the ball roll across his body.” “Bruno Fernandes [is] just again putting it simply into a box.
