A Premier League side’s hopes of landing Alejandro Garnacho have just been dashed, according to the latest reports.

Alejandro Garnacho is expected to leave Manchester United this summer.

His fallout with Ruben Amorim after the Europa League final resulted in him losing his place in the Portuguese tactician’s plans.

It was suggested that he and United had agreed to part ways, with the winger prioritising a Premier League switch.

Chelsea and Aston Villa have been heavily linked, yet neither has made an official approach.

That is surprising, given that on his day the winger oozes brilliance, carries that South American flair, and posted 21 goal contributions in 58 games last season.

With Premier League experience under his belt, he should be a wanted man.

United lowers Garnacho’s asking price

Keen to attract interest, it has now emerged that United have dropped their asking price from £70 million to £40 million.

While that should catch the attention of his suitors, it is now understood that even if offers come through, Garnacho will not join just any Premier League side.

There were claims that United’s number 17 was open to a move to Villa, where he thought Unai Emery could get the best out of him.

But the latest revelations from ESPN have revealed why the Villans may still struggle to convince him to sign, despite their head coach being convinced Garnacho can flourish in his system.

Garnacho prioritising Champions League football

“Aston Villa manager Unai Emery sees Garnacho as a useful player for his style of play; however, a source has told ESPN that Garnacho would prefer to sign for a team in the Champions League,” says ESPN.

Understandably, Garnacho wants to play on the grandest stage; every top player dreams of showcasing their talent in Europe’s elite competition.

For Villa, that is a big transfer blow.

They finished sixth in the league table after a 2–0 defeat to United on the final day of the 2024–25 season, with goal difference seeing Newcastle pip them to a Champions League spot.

That loss, which United fans relished, could now cost Villa a golden opportunity in the transfer market.

He may have had his off-field troubles, but Garnacho remains undeniably talented with a high ceiling that could see him blossom into a future star.

With Champions League football on offer at Stamford Bridge, it is another boost for Chelsea, already buoyed by the price drop they were said to be waiting for.
