Former Manchester United forward Alejandro Garnacho has delivered an unexpected verdict on his time at Old Trafford, amidst his rocky start to life at Chelsea. Frustrating start Garnacho left United last summer after five years, having joined the club in 2020 from Atletico Madrid’s academy. After an impressive spell in United’s youth ranks, he finally made his senior debut in 2022, coming on as a substitute during a 1-1 draw with Chelsea. He got his big break in the 2022/23 campaign under then-manager Erik ten Hag, who promoted him to the first team. Garnacho soon became a regular in the senior squad, but his standing under Ruben Amorim deteriorated, eventually leading to a public spat after the Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur. Left with no choice, United sanctioned a sale to Chelsea for £40m. The Red Devils also inserted a 10% sell-on clause that will enable them to benefit from any future sale of the Argentina international. But things haven’t gone according to plan at Chelsea for Garnacho. He has managed just one Premier League goal all season, and has often had to be content with starting from the bench. His performances have been a source of frustration for the Stamford Bridge faithful and there is already talk of a summer exit. A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that River Plate manager Eduardo Coudet is keen on adding Garnacho to his ranks. However, speaking to Premier League Productions, Garnacho explained that he is happy at Chelsea. He added that he harbours no ill feelings towards United, despite the somewhat acrimonious nature of his departure. Garnacho’s admission The 21-year-old said, “We know the team we have, the things we can do.” “Sometimes is better in some moments, and worse. But yeah, I’m really proud to be here in this moment.” “The life here [at Chelsea] is normal, and I’m happy.” He added, “But yeah, at United have nothing wrong to say about the club or any teammates, no one. Just a moment on life changed. My life continued. So we have to keep looking forward.” Garnacho made 144 appearances for United, contributing 26 goals in that period.
