Fringe United stars weighing shocking transfer decisions as Amorim’s future hangs in the balance – report

A section of Manchester United’s loan players and those currently out of favour at the club are reportedly mulling surprise next steps as Ruben Amorim’s future hangs in the balance.

Amorim’s job under threat

Amorim is now under massive pressure at United following the side’s disgraceful defeat to League Two club Grimsby Town in the second round of the EFL Cup.

Grimsby led United 2-0 by half-time and had two further goals ruled out by the referee. The Red Devils hit back in the second period through Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire but it didn’t count for too much as they were beaten 12-11 in the ensuing penalty shootout.

After the final whistle, a visibly dejected Amorim appeared to cast doubts over his own future as he suggested that the players had given up on him and his methods.

A section of supporters are already calling for a managerial change and talks between the Portuguese coach and the hierarchy are expected to take place during the upcoming international break.

It’s understood that United currently don’t have plans to sack Amorim but there is an acceptance that he will need to mastermind an uptick in form and results very soon.

As the situation rumbles on, Chris Wheeler of the Daily Mail has claimed that some fringe United stars are considering holding off on leaving the club this summer amidst the likelihood that they could outlast Amorim at Old Trafford.

United misfits weighing shock transfer moves

Wheeler explains, “Daily Mail Sport understands that some of the players who have gone out on loan or face an uncertain future at United ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline are wondering if they can outlast Amorim at Old Trafford.”

“However, United sources insist there are no plans to make a change so early in the season, and believe that emotion got the better of their head coach at Blundell Park.”

“It would not be the first time and they expect him to offer more clarity when he holds his pre-match press conference at Carrington on Friday lunchtime.”

The players in question have not been identified, though it is presumed the group may feature stars who have been sidelined after falling out of favour under Amorim.

United are back in action on Saturday when they face Burnley at Old Trafford. Kick-off is at 15:00 BST.
