Fresh twist in Lavia’s near-move to United as truth emerges on what actually happened behind the scenes – report

A surprise new development has emerged after a recent claim that Chelsea offered Manchester United the chance to sign Romeo Lavia during the summer transfer window. Chelsea offered United Lavia A report covered by The Peoples Person earlier this week claimed that during negotiations for Alejandro Garnacho to move to Stamford Bridge, Chelsea floated the option of Lavia heading the other way. Lavia joined Chelsea in 2023 from Southampton in a deal worth £58million. His time with Chelsea has not gone according to plan so far. Injuries and fitness issues have plagued Lavia, who has yet to complete a full 90 minutes of competitive football in two-and-a-half years. The Belgian is currently sidelined with a fresh problem picked up during Chelsea’s 2-2 Champions League draw with Qarabag in Baku, Azerbaijan last week. The Qarabag game was just Lavia’s 30th appearance for Chelsea. The report claimed that United turned down Chelsea’s offer due to concerns about Lavia’s poor injury record. Garnacho ended up joining Chelsea for £40million. United didn’t sign a midfielder, only snapping up Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko and Senne Lammens. According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea did not give United the option to sign Lavia. The newspaper claims that director of football Jason Wilcox actually enquired about the 21-year-old. Lavia twist The Daily Mail write, “There were reports this week that Chelsea offered Romeo Lavia to Manchester United during their summer talks over the £40m arrival of Alejandro Garnacho.” “The version I have heard from sources is that it was actually Jason Wilcox – United’s director of football who previously worked at Manchester City and Southampton, Lavia’s two clubs before Chelsea – who had asked about the 21-year-old’s availability.” “Any conversations with United and others at that time will have seen a few names brought up by both sides, not just Lavia’s.” Kieran Gill adds that Chelsea remain supportive of Lavia as he continues with his recovery. Meanwhile, United are back in action on Monday evening when they welcome David Moyes’ Everton to Old Trafford. The meeting kicks off at 8pm.
