Four Manchester United youngsters have been called up to first team training this week.
The Red Devils are in the middle of a rare full week’s training as they prepare for their FA Cup tie with Arsenal on Sunday.
United have a rich tradition of giving young players a chance and academy players making their debut in cup competitions.
There have been fears that this season would see a reduction in the amount of youth minutes due to the team getting used to Ruben Amorim’s system but four youngsters have been present in training.
The Manchester Evening News reports that “Elyh Harrison trained with the Manchester United first-team on Wednesday after being recalled from his loan spell with Chester City, while there was also an opportunity to impress for midfielder Jack Moorhouse.”
Harrison had impressed in the National League, keeping seven clean sheets in 18 matches.
The club will now prioritise trying to find a higher level for the Reserve Team Player of the Year to play at in the second half of the season.
Moorhouse has also been rewarded for his fine displays for the academy where he particularly impressed “in the National League Cup win at Altrincham in November, catching the eye with his driving runs from midfield, and was excellent in the last Premier League 2 fixture of 2024, scoring twice in the 5-1 win against Southampton.”
The 19 year old recently made the step up to under 21s football and has scored two goals in five appearances.
“Defenders Godwill Kukonki, 16, and Tyler Fredricson, 19, were also part of the first-team training group.”
Kukonki has become a more regular feature of the first team squad, having made the final 18 against both Arsenal and Newcastle United. He has received high praise from his boss Amorim.
The Portuguese manager commented that the 16 year old defender is already ready for the Premier League and it seems only a matter of time before he is given an opportunity to make his senior debut at the club.
Finally, Fredricson has also been a stalwart of the under 21s side this season, playing 10 games in defence and scoring one goal.
