Four major Man United fan groups join war against exploitative practice by PL clubs

Four Manchester United fan groups – Manchester United Supporters Trust, The 1958, The Red Army and the Manchester United Youth Supporters Club have joined a growing movement against ticket exploitation by Premier League clubs. Fan groups launch campaign More than 100 fan groups have called for the Premier League to freeze home ticket prices for the next two campaigns, share pricing data and hold talks with supporters’ groups. These groups signed a letter which was published by the Football Supporters’ Association earlier this week. The letter reads in part, “We, supporter organisations and Fan Advisory Board (FAB) representatives from Premier League clubs, are writing to you about the serious issue of rising costs in football and the impact this is having on supporters.” “We are deeply concerned by the continuing trend of rising home ticket prices across the Premier League. These increases risk pricing out the very people who make the game what it is.” For the 2024/25 campaign, 19 of the 20 clubs in the Premier League hiked ticket prices. 13 did the same for the ongoing season. The letter encourages top-flight clubs to “stop the arms race” over ticketing, arguing that £3bn transfer windows, soaring agent fees and record wages won’t be paid for by increases in ticket prices. We understand the commercial realities – but that’s exactly why we need to halt the increases and work together on a more balanced approach.” United fan groups join the fight United have raised season ticket prices by an average of around 5% in each of the last three seasons. Towards the end of last year, United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe hiked the cost of any remaining unsold home tickets to £66 – a move that sparked fan protests and outrage. MUST issued a statement confirming they have joined forces with The 1958, The Red Army, and the Manchester United Youth Supporters Club to demand a freeze on ticket prices. The statement notes, “MUST, The 1958, TRA* and MUYSC** amongst other United fan groups, have signed up to the FSA campaign will be lobbying for the ticket price freeze at United for next season, putting pressure on the Club via the Fans Advisory Board, Fans Forum, bilateral dialogue, and via more public campaigning activities.” United are next in action on Sunday when they go away to Crystal Palace.
