Former Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo is on Inter Miami’s radar this summer.
The Argentine defender signed for the Red Devils in 2014 and played 122 times for the club.
His time in England was characterised by rashness and serious injury, playing just 17 times for the club in his final three seasons in Manchester.
The defender left the club in 2020 for Boca Juniors in his native Argentina and has played 133 times for the South American giants.
Rojo is still a regular starter and has been named captain of the team on numerous occasions. Nonetheless, his future at Boca is far from clear as he is yet to be offered a new deal.
TNT Sports report that Rojo may have played his last game in Argentina as Inter Miami have expressed interest in the defender.
The outlet states that there could be “an unexpected twist regarding Marcos Rojo’s future at Boca Juniors.”
The report continues, “one of the biggest questions surrounding Boca Juniors concerns the future of Marcos Rojo, one of the team’s key players. While he still has a contract, his continued presence at the club is by no means assured.”
Complicating matters further, the former United man is very much “on the radar” of David Beckham’s Inter Miami.
It is stated that the imminent arrival of defender Marco Pellegrino could put Rojo’s place in the team under strain despite the fact he is still viewed as a “top player” by the club’s hierarchy.
Boca’s new manager, Miguel Ángel Russo, has hardly been overly-committal on Rojo’s future claiming, “it’s my decision who plays and who doesn’t. I’m very calm about these things.”
Were he to join Inter Miami, he would team up with fellow Argentine Lionel Messi. What’s more, he would have another fellow compatriot in the current head coach of the team, Javier Mascherano.
