BACK Dylan Oakley Feb 3rd 2026 Man United have been told to look at alternative targets to Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson ahead of the summer window. The Red Devils didn’t make any signings during the January transfer window, likely due to the uncertainty surrounding the manager position at Old Trafford. Whether it be Michael Carrick or someone else in the summer, Man United are expected to make some moves. Casemiro announced that he will leave at the end of the season, and so United will need to sign a central midfielder to replace him. One name they’ve been linked with is Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson, who is expected to cost around £100m. They have also been linked to Brighton’s Carlos Baleba and Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton. Man United told to sign Tonali Despite the links to Anderson, Baleba and more, Man United have actually been told to make a move for Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali, who was linked with a move to Arsenal on transfer deadline day. Former Man United defender Danny Simpson tipped United to sign Tonali in a recent interview with Meta Spins Casino. He said: “I think Tonali would work really well in that United midfield. “I think he would complement Kobbie Mainoo really nicely, because he gets about the pitch so well. Obviously, he’s been a top player for Newcastle. He’s good on the ball, he’s strong, he’s physical, he’d be a brilliant player in there in many regards. “Also, he’s the type of player that I think could wear a Man Utd shirt. It’s not easy, that, and I feel like he could wear it with the pressure and deal with it. He could definitely slot in there.” Tonali not expected to leave Newcastle Amid the current rumours of a potential move to Arsenal, it is understood that Tonali doesn’t plan to leave Newcastle any time soon. Eddie Howe was asked about the midfielder in his press conference on Tuesday after the reports emerged on Monday. He replied: “That would surprise me [if Tonali became unsettled], but our best players will always attract glances from other clubs – that’s just the reality of football. “There was certainly no intention from our side to lose Sandro at all. He’s such an integral player to what we’re doing. He’s very happy here.” Click here to see Man United’s current first team squad.
