Fletchers follow the Astons in United historySunday 21 December 2025 19:29Jack Fletcher made his senior Manchester United debut in the 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa, following in the footsteps of his father Darren. It was a proud moment as Jack became the 255th homegrown first-teamer in the club’s history, and he was soon followed by number 256 in Shea Lacey, who was also introduced by head coach Ruben Amorim. Of course, the family are very closely linked with the Reds at the moment, with Darren coaching the Under-18s and Jack’s twin brother Tyler a regular for the Under-21s.John Aston Jnr won the league title, like his father. It is the second time that both a father and son have represented United’s senior side. The first history-makers are John Aston Snr and John Aston Jnr. The elder figure helped the side win the first trophy under Sir Matt Busby, the 1948 FA Cup, and was also part of a title-winning side four years later. The younger Aston was famously Man of the Match in the 1968 European Cup final win over Benfica. This came the season after he also won the league with Busby’s men. There have been a number of interesting side-notes, in this regard. Charlie Savage played for the United first team but his father Robbie did not, despite being part of the fabled Class of ’92 youth team. Sir Alex and Darren Ferguson, Wilf and Paul McGuinness and Jim and Neil Ryan have all had playing and coaching connections at the club. Meanwhile, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s daughter Karna played for United Women in an FA Cup tie against Bridgwater United in 2022. Congratulations to the Fletcher family on the wonderful achievement.Recommended:Mainoo injury update ArticleRuben Amorim says Kobbie is going to be sidelined with a calf problem and is likely to miss our Boxing Day clash.Sunday 21 December 2025 19:29Back to Top
