INEOS are keen to sell big-name players in the summer, considering the disastrous Premier League campaign and the need to raise money for Ruben Amorim to reinvest.
On-loan stars like Antony, and Marcus Rashford are expected to be the first to depart while the co-owners are eager to get rid of Casemiro’s wages despite the head coach’s admiration for the player.
While these sales could net the club decent money, moving on an academy star is what would really help with the club’s PSR outlook as it would constitute pure profit.
Apart from Rashford, both Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo‘s futures remain up in the air and the duo could fetch some serious money given the interest they are generating.
Garnacho’s future up in the air
The Argentine has been used non-stop by Amorim since January and while his finishing has not been up to his usual high standards, the 20-year-old cannot be faulted for not giving his all.
Despite club’s mediocre campaign, the Argentina international has notched 11 goals and 10 assists and fans are desperate for him to stay.
Amorim would prefer an attacking midfielder in his place with Garnacho forced to play as one of the No 10s in the absence of the desired profiles.
In January there was talk of a move to Napoli while Chelsea also expressed their interest in the winger. The Naples outfit are expected to return in the summer and The Daily Star have now claimed the Blues will do the same.
But INEOS are reluctant to strengthen a direct rival and will want at least £65 million to sell to the London club.
That’s not all as Garnacho would also like assurances regarding playing time from Enzo Maresca. Currently, the Stamford Bridge club have an abundance of wingers and the Argentina international could struggle to earn minutes.
Chelsea will come back for Garnacho
“Manchester United have told Chelsea to stump up at least £65m for Alejandro Garnacho this summer. Chelsea tried to sign the Argentine winger in the last transfer window but failed to agree a deal.
“But the London club retain a strong interest in Garnacho, and are expected to make a move for him again at the end of this season.
“He would want assurances from Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca he would be a big part of his future plans at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea have a huge squad and high turnover of players, so Garnacho wants to be sure he would be making the right move.”
Fans would be deeply disappointed if the Carrington graduate is moved on given the numbers he has racked up in spite of the chaos around him while he is only 20 and has plenty of time to improve even further.
Europa League success could change things for United and hopefully by qualifying for the Champions League, INEOS will not need to take any extraordinarily harsh decisions regarding outgoings in the summer.
