Manchester United are very intently trying to sign a new number nine this summer.
The Red Devils have started pre-season with Rasmus Hojlund still in the ranks but the Dane is yet to hit his straps and prove himself for the Red Devils.
One thing that Ruben Amorim desperately needs from any potential striker that Man Utd sign is the ability to score regular goals.
This has been one of the biggest pain points affecting the Red Devils in the past couple of seasons.
One way that Man Utd can address this issue is by bringing in an experienced striker like Aleksandar Mitrovic while keeping Hojlund.
The ex-Fulham striker has had the experience of playing in the Premier League and scoring goals.
Around a month ago, it was revealed that Manchester United were keen to sign the 30-year-old striker from Al-Hilal and that he would cost £40m this summer. However, there was no advancement on that interest.
Now, as per Caught Offside, the Red Devils continue to be interested in the Serbian striker but his asking price has now dropped, with Mitrovic expected to be available for £26million. Tottenham are also interested in him.
Mitrovic is a typical number nine, who knows where the back of the net is. Perfectly capable of playing with his back to goal, his hold-up play would offer something very different to what Rasmus Hojlund can offer.
At 30, the Serbian is still in the prime years of his career and has 2-3 good seasons left in him.
A move to Man Utd at this stage of his career could well be his final big move and could earn him a place on the Premier League map.
It remains to be seen if Man Utd indeed push to try and sign Mitrovic in the coming days.
The fee makes signing the Serbian a no-brainer for the Red Devils, and let’s wait and see how things play out in the coming days.
