Fabrizio Romano: United “set to approach Wolves” with clever Cunha offer, will have huge effect on summer spending

Manchester United will attempt to pay Matheus Cunha’s release clause of £62.5 million in instalments.

The Red Devils have made attacking signings an absolute priority this summer owing to their anaemic form in front of goal domestically.

Many credible sources have reported that the first attacking reinforcement will be Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano reported yesterday that United were close to agreeing a deal for the Brazil international.

Sky Sports also stated that the deal should be completed next week once the season concludes this Sunday.

Romano has provided another update this morning and claimed that Cunha has already said “yes” to United and that the deal is “almost done” on the player’s side.

He has also stated that “Man United are set to approach Wolves to proceed with £62.5m release clause payment in instalments.”

The Peoples Person relayed news last month that United were keen to pay Cunha’s clause in parts and luckily for Ruben Amorim’s side, Wolves appear to be open to the prospect.

Were the Black Country side to accept this proposal, it would provide United with more vital financial flexibility in a summer where much surgery is needed on the squad.

United already performed the same trick last year when they paid slightly more than Joshua Zirkzee’s clause but are in the process of paying it off in instalments rather than one lump sum.

Supporters will be excited about the prospect of signing the flashy Brazilian who has scored 15 Premier League goals this season.

There will also be encouragement from the fact that in spite of much competition, Cunha appears desperate to play for United. It has even been suggested by sources close to him that he “loves” the club ahead of his big summer move.
