Fabrizio Romano confirms Man Utd star’s January exit is a ‘serious possibility’

Fabrizio Romano reveals that Manchester United and Joshua Zirkzee could indeed part ways in the middle of the season.

The 24-year-old had his highs and lows last season, but he was at least taking part in the action, unlike this term, where he’s been spending the vast majority of his time on the bench.

On Sunday, the Dutchman was an unused substitute at Anfield. Zirkzee vividly celebrated the team’s victory over Liverpool after the final whistle, as his passion for the club has never been questioned, but with only 74 minutes of playing time this season, an exit could be inevitable.

Why Joshua Zirkzee could leave Man United in JanuaryIn the latest video posted on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano quashed all rumours claiming that the player has handed in a transfer request.

Nevertheless, the Italian journalist believes that the former Bologna star could eventually take this step if his playing time doesn’t improve in the coming weeks and months. Therefore, Romano insists that Zirkzee’s January exit is a ‘serious’ and ‘concrete’ possibility.

That being said, Romano also reckons that a transfer request wouldn’t necessarily result in a departure, as evidenced by Kobbie Mainoo’s attempt to leave on loan in late August.

Therefore, the Bayern Munich youth product has an extra incentive to push for an exit, at least if Ruben Amorim doesn’t hand him a prominent role.

Zirkzee’s playing time in EPL this season Minutes Arsenal 0 Fulham 0 Burnley 59 Manchester City 10 Chelsea 0 Brentford 5 Sunderland 0 Liverpool 0 Total 74 Zirkzee is a versatile striker who can cover almost any role in the final third, but it appears that Matheus Cunha is now filling this colourful post, and even the Brazilian had to settle for second-half cameos on some occasions recently.

Hence, the Dutchman’s quest towards regaining a regular spot won’t be an easy one, especially if Man Utd can extend their current positive run, as Amorim wouldn’t want to disrupt a winning recipe.
