“Exciting choice”: Manager delighted with United loanee’s transfer decision, explains why the move is perfect for him

Manchester United decided to move Rasmus Hojlund on this summer following his dismal form last season.

A meagre four goals in the Premier League is not what is expected from United’s No.9, and following Benjamin Sesko’s arrival, Ruben Amorim took the call to let the Dane depart.

He has joined Napoli on an initial season-long loan with the Serie A champions obligated to buy him should they qualify for the Champions League.

The 22-year-old was heartbroken to leave his favourite club, as he felt he was better than the Slovenian, but he was not allowed the chance to compete with the big-money signing in training.

Denmark manager on Rasmus Hojlund’s move to Napoli

While the striker was disappointed, his international manager was delighted with the move, explaining that the Serie A suits his strengths much more than the Premier League.

Rasmus Hojlund had caught the attention of the world with his electrifying performances for Atalanta, which had ultimately earned him the coveted move to Old Trafford.

The slow-nature of the league, coupled with Hojlund’s pace in behind will ensure plenty of chances, and that has made Denmark manager Brian Riemer very happy.

“I think Rasmus Højlund’s move to Italian football is an exciting choice. That’s where he had his big international breakthrough, and now he has the opportunity to return to something that worked,” he was quoted as saying by Tipsbladet.

“I expect him to reach the level he showed when he was last in Serie A. He is moving to do something different than where he comes from. I look forward to following him, because it is an interesting choice.”

Why Serie A suits him more

“There are many arrows that point to him being a good fit for Serie A. If you look at the league’s playing style, it has always suited the type of player Rasmus is. That’s a good start. And he has already shown that he can score goals in that league,” Riemer explained.

And the manager also took an indirect dig at United, claiming that Napoli are in a much better position both on and off the field and this will help the striker settle and perform.

“He has shown that he can perform in those surroundings, and he comes to a well-functioning club, and that is also crucial for me.”

United will not be too bothered with his words, all INEOS will be hoping is that Napoli do well so that the loan becomes permanent and the money enters the club’s coffers.
