Ex-United star set for sensational return to football as move to new club is a ‘done deal’ – report

Former Manchester United defender Sergio Reguilon is on the brink of making a sensational return to football, with a transfer to Inter Miami very close to happening, according to a report. Reguilon at United Reguilon joined United on a season-long loan from Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur in September 2023. Erik ten Hag sanctioned a swoop for the left-back as an emergency signing, following injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia. During his four-month stint at Old Trafford, Reguilon made 12 appearances for United. He started eight games and came off the bench on four occasions. He did not register a goal contribution for the club. His involvement dwindled as Shaw neared a return. United eventually triggered a recall clause in the loan agreement, sending Reguilon back to Spurs after just 123 days. Reguilon has been without a club since June. The Spaniard hasn’t tasted a minute of senior football since May, when he received a rare start for Spurs against Aston Villa. Now, a new report has claimed that Reguilon is on the verge of linking up with Lionel Messi at Inter Miami. Reguilon set to return Marca [via The Mirror] reveal that Reguilon to Inter Miami is “a done deal”, with an announcement expected imminently. The MLS club, owned by United legend David Beckham, Reguilon is the side’s ‘Plan A’ to replace Jordi Alba, who has retired from football alongside teammate Sergio Busquets. It’s understood that Reguilon has been “training extensively” on his own and it appears his hard work is finally paying off. Meanwhile, United are back in action on Monday evening when they take on bottom-of-the-table Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Molineux.
