Ex-United star launches legal action against club over serious allegation – report

Former Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe has launched legal action against the club over a stunning accusation.

Tuanzebe’s time at United

Tuanzebe left United in 2023 upon the expiry of his contract. He only made 37 senior appearances for the club, with injuries preventing him from nailing down a consistent run of games and performances.

His fitness issues first started when he sustained a hip injury during the warm-up ahead of a meeting with Liverpool in 2019.

The Carrington academy graduate was then ruled out for the rest of the season after hurting himself in a Carabao Cup victory over Colchester United that December.

Tuanzebe missed the start of the subsequent season with a foot injury and had another lengthy lay-off at the beginning of the 2022/23 campaign. He did not return to action until January, after which he left for Stoke City on loan.

The DR Congo international also had loan spells at Aston Villa and Napoli. After permanently leaving United, he signed for Ipswich Town and played a crucial role for them as they earned promotion to the Premier League.

He parted ways with the Tractor Boys, who were relegated to the Championship, after the conclusion of the 2024/25 season. But, he has since secured a move to newly-promoted Burnley on a free transfer.

Tuanzebe sues United

According to The Telegraph, Tuanzebe has sued United for alleged “clinical negligence” linked to “medical advice” the Red Devils gave him.

“Telegraph Sport can reveal that the 27-year-old, who left United two years ago when his contract expired, has lodged a legal claim at the High Court.”

“Lawyers for Tuanzebe declined to comment on the action brought by a player who endured an injury-plagued career at United before joining Ipswich Town in September 2023.”

This has been corroborated by The Guardian who note, “Axel Tuanzebe has lodged a legal complaint against Manchester United alleging ‘medical negligence’, with the claim by the club’s former defender relating to an injury sustained in or after July 2022.”

A submission entitled ‘Tuanzebe v Manchester United Football Club Limited’ was registered last Wednesday at the high court, with the case type described as ‘Clinical Negligence – Part 7 Claim – Medical Advice’. The claim is understood to relate to an injury in his final year at the club.”

United declined to comment when contacted by The Guardian.
