Ex-United star in line for shock reunion with Ten Hag as he’s offered to Leverkusen – report

A surprise reunion is on the cards for former Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof following the latest update on his transfer situation.

United release Lindelof

United released Lindelof earlier this summer upon the expiry of his contract, bringing to an end his eight-year Old Trafford tenure.

Lindelof joined United in 2017 from Portuguese outfit Benfica in a deal worth around £31m.

The Sweden international went on to make 284 appearances for United, helping the club win both the FA Cup and League Cup in the two seasons leading up to 2024/25.

He came off the bench in the FA Cup final triumph over Manchester City and helped his side get over the line. Lindelof netted four goals for the Red Devils, all of which he bagged at Old Trafford.

In the weeks before his exit, Lindelof was linked with a return to Benfica. Another report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that he had held talks with long-term admirers Inter Milan.

However, a transfer has yet to materialise and Lindelof remains a free agent.

But, he could be back in the action very soon, with a new report claiming that he has been offered to Bayer Leverkusen, which is currently under former United boss Erik ten Hag.

Unexpected reunion on the cards for Lindelof

According to Sky Germany, Leverkusen’s managing director of sport Simon Rolfes and other club executives are seriously considering moving in for Lindelof.

After losing Jonathan Tah to Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich, Leverkusen are in search of a defensive leader, despite having secured Jarrel Quansah from Liverpool.

Lindelof fits the bill of what they’re looking for – a central defender who boasts bags of experience and can be relied upon. It also helps that he and Ten Hag know each other well, from their time together at United.

Sky Germany note that Lindelof has been offered to Leverkusen. The 31-year-old played 67 times for United under Ten Hag.
