Ex-United boss receives surprise award in King’s new year’s honours list, will raise some eyebrows

Former Manchester United manager David Moyes has been awarded an OBE.

Moyes has been appointed an OBE in the New Year Honours list for services to football. The Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) is handed to individuals who have done something special for their region or country.

Moyes has been feated for his contributions to football in the country.

He has managed a total of 697 Premier League games – a number only exceeded by the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger.

Moyes has overseen more than 1,100 matches across six clubs, including United.

Following Sir Alex’s retirement in 2013, Moyes was brought in as his replacement but his spell at Old Trafford was short-lived, as it only lasted 10 months.

The 61-year-old has been out of work since he was sacked by West Ham in May.

Reacting to being awarded an OBE, Moyes said [via BBC], “I don’t consider myself done yet but I am certainly enjoying some time off.”

“The one thing I won’t do is put any manager under pressure personally, because I don’t believe in it. I have not liked it when I have been in that position myself.”

“We are all getting a little bit older and I have to make sure I am doing the right thing for myself.”

He added, “Football is in my blood. It has been since I was a boy. I love watching football and I have enjoyed my career.”

“If there is another part to it, so be it. But I would only want it to be a good part. I wouldn’t want to be coming in and doing something which is very difficult.”

“I don’t want to be at the bottom of the league and fighting relegation which I have had a few times, so we will see how things go.”
