Europe’s “most wanted” wonderkid is “waiting” for a move to United ahead of club’s bitter rivals – report

Mathys Tel is reported to be “waiting to see” if Manchester United make an approach to Bayern Munich to sign the French starlet before deciding on a move away from Germany.

Tel, 19, is one of the most highly-rated prospects attacking prospects in Europe, having joined the Bundesliga giant for £25 million from Rennes at just 17 years of age – a reflection of his incredible potential.

United hold a long-standing admiration for Tel with Old Trafford officials reported to have considered an approach to sign the Frenchman last season, though this interest was rebuffed as he was believed to be happy in Bavaria.

However, complaints over a lack of first-team opportunities under Bayern boss Vincent Kompany has seen Tel made the shock decision to push for an exit from the Allianz Arena before the January transfer window closes next week.

This has put a host of major clubs across Europe on red-alert, including the Red Devils, with Bayern considering either a loan deal or a straight transfer for the 19-year-old.

Tottenham Hotspur have reached a “€60 million agreement” with the German club for Tel, while Arsenal and Chelsea have also “made enquiries” to sign the French forward.

Tel is believed to be prioritising game time should he depart Bayern, potentially ruling out a move to the Emirates and Stamford Bridge with both teams already containing a number of experienced attackers.

The path towards a starting berth is clearer at Tottenham with Ange Postecoglou’s side short on quality in the forward line.

This is mirrored by Ruben Amorim’s attacking unit, however, with centre-forwards Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee failing to impress the Portuguese coach since the 39-year-old swapped Lisbon for Mancheser in November to replace Erik ten Hag.

And, Pete Hall (inews) reveals, Tel is willing to wait for an approach by the Red Devils with a report relayed by The Peoples Person indicating the Frenchman’s preference is a switch to Old Trafford.

“Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel is waiting to see if Manchester United’s interest is concrete before making a decision on his future,” Hall states.

“Bayern sporting director Max Eberl confirmed he has already fielded calls from a host of clubs, with Tel emerging as the most wanted man in Europe in the final week of the January transfer window. It is not clear whether Bayern will sanction a loan move, but should they do so, United are understood to be considering entering the market at the 11th hour.”

Hall contends United are Tel’s “preferred destination”, offering the Reds a unique opportunity to fix a problem position with an elite talent.

United’s issues in front of goal this season have been stark. The club are languished in a dismal 12th place in the table with only five sides having scored fewer times in the Premier League this season.

The prospect of a highly-rated forward, who has drawn parallels to Thierry Henry, prioritising a switch to Old Trafford ahead of the club’s direct rivals should be all the ammunition INEOS need to sanction a move, regardless of the finances involved.
