European giants will not take drastic transfer action, United will be relieved – report

Manchester United offloaded Marcus Rashford to Barcelona on a season-long loan this summer. The Englishman had a fallout with Ruben Amorim last year and subsequently joined Aston Villa on a temporary deal in January 2025.

Six months later, his situation at Old Trafford did not improve, and the player opted to make the journey to Camp Nou in July.

While United would have preferred to offload him on a permanent deal, the loan also made sense since the Catalans had agreed to cover his wages.

However, recent reports suggested that the La Liga giants are considering an abrupt termination of the arrangement in January following Rashford’s underwhelming start to life in Spain.

Rashford is yet to live up to expectations at Camp Nou

Barcelona opted to move for Rashford this summer after missing out on Nico Williams. The Englishman represented a cheap option for the cash-strapped Blaugrana to strengthen their attack.

Despite the 27-year-old’s recent struggles with United, the Spanish champions took a bet on the player. Rashford was expected to take La Liga by storm but has struggled to live up to the billing.

The Englishman has appeared in all three games for Barcelona, one of which was from the start. However, he is yet to pick up a goal or an assist, and has registered just two shots, one of which was on target.

The situation has led to whispers that the Catalans are considering a separation in the winter transfer window. However, those rumours have now been put to bed by a well respected source.

Barcelona have faith in Rashford

According to journalist Guillem Balague, reports of Barcelona considering Rashford’s exit in the winter are wide off the mark.

The Catalans apparently value the Englishman and do not plan to offload him in the middle of the campaign. They have even informed Rashford’s entourage that they trust the player and believe in his abilities.

The La Liga champions expect him to regain his old form, which will help add a new dimension to Hansi Flick’s attack. It could also help United offload him permanently next summer.

Barcelona have a purchase option in the deal for €30 million. The Red Devils will now hope that Rashford can convince the Catalans to exercise that clause by the end of this campaign.
