Manchester United have been linked with Harry Kane for quite some time, but a move has yet to materialise. The English striker is one of the finest goalscorers in the history of the beautiful game and first rose to prominence with Tottenham Hotspur. After scoring 280 goals and providing 63 assists in 435 games for the north London side, Kane moved to Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023. The Red Devils were also looking for a new No. 9 that summer and were subsequently linked with a move for the Englishman. However, they missed out on Kane and ended up signing Rasmus Hojlund instead. Taking the Bundesliga by storm Unfortunately for United, Hojlund failed to live up to the billing, while Kane has gone from strength to strength with the Bundesliga champions. The 32 year old has already scored 109 goals in 115 games for the Bavarians to date, helping them win the league last season. He has continued his golden run this campaign as well, registering 24 goals in 19 appearances. The situation has prompted talks of a possible move for Kane in 2026, but a recent update on the matter could trouble the Old Trafford hierarchy. Bayern planning renewal According to Bundesliga insider Christian Falk, Bayern Munich are planning to hold contract talks with Harry Kane at the end of January. “Bayern bosses and Kane’s management are likely to discuss a new contract at the beginning of the year. Kane has a £56m release clause in his contract, but it expires in January.” “However, our information suggests that talks will take place only after the end of January, when his release clause in the contract runs out. “Kane has been playing at the peak of his form, and he shares a fantastic relationship with the club officials. The England striker still has two years left on his deal, and it appears that both parties are relaxed about his situation.” Barcelona reportedly have their eyes on Kane as a possible replacement for Robert Lewandowski, although a return to the Premier League could entice the Englishman for a particular reason. Final Thoughts Harry Kane has scored 213 goals in the Premier League and is within touching distance of Alan Shearer’s record of 260. As such, the former Spurs man could be tempted to return to England to claim that milestone and United must look to take advantage of it. There’s a belief that playing alongside an established striker like Kane could have a profound impact on Sesko’s development. However, if the Englishman ends up signing a new deal with Bayern Munich, securing his services could become very difficult.
