Eriksen: We are so lucky to have these fans

Thursday 26 June 2025 08:56

It was announced following Manchester United’s final Premier League game of the 2024/25 season that midfielder Christian Eriksen is departing the club.

The midfield pass master joined on a free transfer in the summer of 2022 and, over the course of the next three years, racked up 107 appearances for the Reds, scoring eight goals.

The last of those strikes came in that final outing, against Aston Villa, in a 2-0 win that was capped by the Dane converting from the spot to sign off in style.

After waving goodbye to the supporters at Old Trafford, Christian took time to speak to us about his time as a Red.

“I think it was [a fitting way to finish], taking into account the season it’s been,” he told MUTV’s Liam Bradford. “But the perfect finish to my three years at United.

“It’s been special. So, yeah, to go out with a goal and a win, and a bit of smile on everyone’s faces, was really nice.”

The 33-year-old bids farewell with two winners’ medals around his neck as part of the squads that lifted the Carabao Cup and the Emirates FA Cup in consecutive seasons under Erik ten Hag; those triumphs making for some of the Dane’s greatest memories in a red shirt.

“There’s been a lot of good memories, a lot of special games, a lot of special people I’ve met in my time here,” Eriksen continued. “Two trophies and, in between that, a few finals as well.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time and a huge thank you to the club, to the fans, to my team-mates.

“I’ve really felt at home from day one, me and my family, so it’s going to be a special place in my heart, leaving here.”

Eriksen credits our incredible supporters for making his time with United so special, and for pulling him and his fellow Reds through some of the more difficult moments.

The midfielder is confident the club is now on a positive path, wishing the Reds the best, despite not being along for the journey personally.

“They [the fans] have really been standing behind us, and I think they’ve done that through the years I’ve been here as well,” he added. “They’ve always been supportive, no matter what the circumstances have been.

“I think the players are lucky to have them as fans and, yeah, I think the people, the players, know that now. They play for the fans, like they always [have] done.

“Hopefully, there will be good times ahead, like the manager was saying [during his on-pitch address].

“Together with the fans, I’m sure they have a bright future.”
