Christian Eriksen salutes the United fans at Old Trafford

Sunday 25 May 2025 20:27

Christian Eriksen has looked back on his time at Manchester United with fondness, after making his final appearance for the club in Sunday’s win over Aston Villa.

The Dane came off the bench to make his 108th appearance for the Reds in our final league outing of the campaign, which after full-time was confirmed to be his last for the club, following three seasons at Old Trafford.

Eriksen marked that final outing with an eighth and final goal for United, scoring from the penalty spot to make sure of our 2-0 success. He had earlier gone close to scoring, direct from a free-kick and curling a left-footed effort wide from a similar distance out.

Speaking to TNT Sports, on the pitch following the conclusion of our final game of the season, Eriksen spoke of his final contribution in a United shirt, and his time as a Red overall.

“It’s been an exciting few years playing in this stadium and playing for this club, but I’ve enjoyed it and I’ll take a lot of good memories with me,” Eriksen told TNT’s Jules Breach.

“We did it today for the fans, we had a tough season, but I’m going to wish them all the best. It’s an incredible stadium, an incredible club. They will be back on top at some point, for sure.”

Skipper Bruno Fernandes handed the ball and penalty-taking duty to Eriksen, when the referee pointed to the spot with little under five minutes of normal-time remaining, after Amad was brought down by Ian Maatsen in the box.

“I think that’s also why Bruno gave me a pen, as a nice farewell,” continued our no.14.

“Yeah, I think so [a surprise to take the penalty]. I think definitely with the goal and the last half an hour here in the stadium.”

AMAD: WE’LL COME BACK NEXT SEASON STRONGER

Standing alongside Eriksen was fellow goalscorer Amad, who played a part in both of United’s goals on the day.

The exciting attacker expressed sorrow to our supporters for how the season has panned out below expectation.

“I think winning is always important for this team. We knew this season, it was a tough season for everyone, especially for us,” he said.

“But today, we won and we just want pride because the fans deserve this win, the club, and we are really sorry for what happened this season. We keep learning and we come back next season stronger.”

Amad headed home his eighth goal of the Premier League season on the final day.

“I think they [the fans] deserve everything, they deserve the positivity for us, they deserve the win for us. It is a big club, we know that.

“We know this season was very, very hard for everyone, even for them, but they were always here to support us, no matter what.

“I want to say thanks for them and we will come back next season stronger.”
