“Enquiries made”: United will strengthen key defensive position with new signings in the summer – report

Manchester United’s disastrous loss to 10-men Everton on Monday showed Ruben Amorim needs help all over the pitch. The lack of quality in midfield has been a major talking point all season, but the head coach also needs wingbacks. Patrick Dorgu started on the left, and was hooked at half-time after a poor display. The Dane often looks clueless when given the ball in advanced areas. With Amorim’s system reliant on wingbacks providing the cutting edge in attacking areas, the Red Devils need more quality. Better wingbacks needed Diogo Dalot came on as his replacement, and the Portugal international is an average player at best but the ex-Sporting CP boss’ reliance on him to change games hardly makes any sense. Amad is a solid option on the right, but he can be found out defensively. Noussair Mazraoui is an intelligent player who is more suited to playing as either a full-back or as one of the centre-backs. This shows INEOS have work on their hands and as per ESPN, the co-owners will not only address the midfield quality concerns next summer, but are likely to add wingbacks as well. In fact, enquiries have already been made regarding potential options. No names have been mentioned, neither the flanks in which they operate.
