€75m Serie A star snubs Saudi offer, United well placed to land dream forward – report

Victor Osimhen’s future remains unresolved as the Napoli forward continues to weigh his options ahead of the new season, with Manchester United showing renewed interest.

The striker, who has long been on the radar of elite clubs, remains undecided. His priority appears to be competing at the highest level—a stance which could tip the balance in United’s favour over wealthier but less competitive alternatives.

This morning’s Corriere dello Sport nicely sums up the situation.

Earlier this year, Saudi side Al-Hilal made a formal approach, offering €160 million over four seasons. Osimhen declined.

The Saudi club, under new manager Simone Inzaghi, identified Osimhen as a flagship signing. They are expected to revisit the proposal, but indications are that money alone will not suffice.

Galatasaray, meanwhile, have emerged as a serious European option.

The Turkish champions are offering €16 million annually—more than the €10 million Osimhen currently earns, but significantly less than the Saudi offer. The player remains admired in Istanbul after a prolific campaign.

Despite that connection, a move to Turkey may fall short of his longer-term ambitions. Champions League football is on offer, but not the week-to-week intensity of the Premier League, a factor that could prove decisive.

Chelsea’s interest, while understood to be genuine, has not surfaced in this report. This absence may suggest either a lower level of engagement or reduced confidence in their chances compared to United.

Napoli remain firm. President Aurelio De Laurentiis has set a €75 million release clause and is not expected to negotiate below it. For now, the Serie A club are passive observers as suitors circle.

With pre-season beginning next month and the market already moving, the coming weeks are pivotal.

Such a move would represent a statement signing for Ruben Amorim’s United. Last season, they struggled badly in front of goal, finishing chances at a worrying rate and lacking a clinical presence inside the box.

Osimhen would address that deficiency head-on.

More than Viktor Gyökeres—who offers versatility but not the same pedigree— the Nigerian brings elite-level experience, a proven record in Serie A and the Champions League, and the instinct of a natural finisher.

For a young, developing side that needs a reliable focal point in attack, Osimhen could be transformative.
