Manchester United Women boss Marc Skinner has revealed that the team looked to attack more, which ultimately made the difference in their 2-0 win against Leicester City.

United travelled to the King Power Stadium on a run of three consecutive draws, and pressure was on Skinner and his players to clinch a result in order to avoid falling further back in the WSL standings.

Elisabeth Terland gave United the lead just before the break, producing a looping header to beat Janina Leitzig in the Leicester goal.

The Reds were largely in control as they kept trying to break down the Foxes’ stubborn defence and eventually got their reward via Celin Bizet, who capitalised on a defensive mishap from the hosts to find the back of the net.

The result has left United in fifth place, with 15 points gained from a possible 21. Skinner’s side are six points adrift of table leaders Chelsea.

United remain unbeaten so far this term.

After the match, Skinner spoke to the media [via BBC] and heaped praise on his stars for their fantastic response after some disappointing results over the past few weeks.

Skinner said, “I’m really pleased. I thought against Brighton, we were the better team. We should have had a penalty. When it came to the other two games, we didn’t attack enough.”

“Our touches in the box were too passive. We looked at it this week and decided to be more aggressive.”

“Today we were way more aggressive. We were higher up the field and won our duels more.”

On facing Leicester at a good time, Skinner remarked, “I wouldn’t disrespect the opponent. It’s good for us to get against our shape. the reality is we would have tried to attack more today anyway.”

“I’m really happy with that performance. It’s another clean sheet.”

United return to action on Wednesday when they face Everton in the Women’s League Cup.
