Delight for Amorim as Man Utd star makes major step towards recovery

Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez is beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel, as his return from injury is edging ever closer.

The Argentine suffered a devastating knee injury last February during a Premier League contest against Crystal Palace, and has been sidelined ever since.

After undergoing surgery to repair the damage, he went through a long rehabilitation process, and he’s now working on regaining his fitness before getting a call-up for the matchday squad.

According to Frenzy X account, the 27-year-old made an important step on Monday, as he participated in a ‘sizeable’ amount of the first-team training at Carrington.

Following Man Utd’s ecstatic victory over Liverpool on Sunday, a host of first-team stars were naturally given the day off. Therefore, Monday’s training session consisted of players who weren’t heavily involved in the contest at Anfield, in addition to a few youngsters from the club’s academy.

While the centre-back isn’t expected to be imminently involved in competitive action, his return to group training, albeit partially, suggests that the centre-back’s comeback isn’t too far away.

Just over a month ago, it was revealed that Martinez had returned to grass training, working on a personalised regime, which was also considered an important step at the time.

This would be a major boost for Ruben Amorim, who considers Martinez a key player in his tactical jigsaw, as he recently admitted.

The Portuguese manager has been primarily relying on Luke Shaw on the left side of the defensive trio, but one would imagine that the Argentine will regain his regular starting berth once he returns to his optimal physical condition.

Martinez joined Man Utd in the summer of 2022, following his old Ajax boss, Erik ten Hag, to Carrington. Nevertheless, many observers feel that the World Cup winner is more suited to Amorim’s three-man backline.
