Manchester United have had a tradition of excellent goalkeepers guarding the posts at Old Trafford over the years.
The likes of David de Gea and legends before him have all impressed but in recent seasons, the options have left a lot to be desired.
The Red Devils signed talented Cameroonian shot-stopper Andre Onana from Inter Milan to replace the Spaniard a couple of seasons ago but the ex-Ajax shot-stopper has failed to hit his straps in two successive season.
Although Onana has had good games in a Man Utd jersey so far, he has made a lot of mistakes.
The problem with Onana is that he is hardly reliable in big moments and has often been culpable when it mattered the most.
Ruben Amorim has started the new season with Altay Bayindir as his choice for the goalkeeping position.
While the Turkish international is good, he isn’t at the level expected of a Manchester United starting shot-stopper.
Now, as per The Mirror, Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens is set to agree a long-term deal to sign for Manchester United.
The Belgian goalkeeper seems to be the chosen one to be the new goalkeeper as the report states Man Utd are set to sign him on a five-year contract.
It is revealed that Lammens is keen on a move to Old Trafford, despite interest from Galatasaray, Inter Milan and Lille.
The player seems set on continuing his career at the M16 and who can blame him, considering the club’s history!
At 23, Lammens is still young but has a very high ceiling. He is the perfect modern-day goalkeeper, capable of playing both with the ball at his feet and saving shots to keep opposition attacks at bay. This could turn out to be a very smart signing for Man Utd.
The next few days could provide a clearer picture on the negotiations between Man Utd and Lammens.
Let’s wait and see if the 23-year-old is unveiled as the Red Devils’ new goalkeeper, sooner rather than later.
