David Ornstein confirms United have made offer to sign blockbuster Premier League forward

Manchester United have reportedly made an offer to Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha ahead of the summer transfer window.

United are eyeing reinforcements in the attacking department following what has been an extremely disappointing season in front of goal and Cunha has emerged as one of their top targets.

The Brazilian has had an outstanding season and is widely regarded as the key factor behind Wolves’ successful battle against relegation. In 30 Premier League appearances, Cunha has plundered an impressive 15 goals and six assists. He has found the back of the net 17 times in 33 matches across all competitions.

Last month, Fabrizio Romano stated that Cunha and Ruben Amorim struck a positive bond, and the player is excited about the prospect of sealing a switch to Old Trafford.

Romano added that a deal could be agreed very fast because all parties are aware Cunha’s £62.5 million release clause will need to be triggered, so negotiations will only revolve around the structure of payment.

Cunha is believed to have plenty of suitors but United are thought to be leading the race to land his signature.

Updates regarding Matheus Cunha had been scarce in recent days, but David Ornstein has since provided an update, assuring that there is no cause for concern.

In his Ask Ornstein Q&A for The Athletic, a United fan channel, UtdXclusive, asked Ornstein what is going in with the club’s pursuit of Cunha.

Ornstein answered, “I don’t think it has died down, there’s just not a great deal that can happen until the season ends and his release clause becomes active.”

“In the meantime Man Utd will seek to get personal terms in place – they’ve made an offer but I’m not aware of an agreement yet, so they’ll continue discussing it in an effort to get there.”

“If/when that happens and the clause becomes active, they can get the deal done.”

“Also they’ve got the small matter of a Europa League semi-final – and likely final – to be focusing on, although European football will not impact their ability to sign Cunha.”

United are likely to step up their pursuit of the 25-year-old once the season ends, but it’s a positive sign that progress is already being made.
