Manchester United travel to Turf Moor to take on Burnley on Wednesday evening. The Red Devils have played The Clarets 138 times in their history. United have come out on top 68 times and have lost on 45 occasions. There have also been 25 draws between the two sides. Here are three storylines to look forward to. United immediately announced that former player Darren Fletcher would take over the reins for the match against Burnley and probably the FA Cup tie on Sunday versus Brighton & Hove Albion. Fletcher has had many roles at the club over the years but has recently been head coach of the under-18s. The Scot is the latest former player to take interim control of the team, with Ryan Giggs, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Michael Carrick and Ruud van Nistelrooy all having been asked to carry out the same job since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013. Matheus Cunha on song The Brazilian has had a rollercoaster start to his United career. After initially impressing, he struggled to score or assist for his new side. This has changed in recent weeks, though, as he has “scored three goals in his last five Premier League appearances, as many as his previous 20 beforehand.” What’s more, he is also lethal against newly promoted sides as he has “nine goal involvements (five goals, four assists) in his last eight league games against newly promoted opponents.” Away day troubles The Red Devils have been ineffective defensively on the road over the last year. One of Amorim’s biggest failings as head coach was his inability to get the team to defend and be solid. Consequently, United have not kept a clean sheet away from home since the 3-0 win over Leicester City in March. What’s more, they have conceded 28 times in the last 15 away days and this is something Fletcher and whoever takes control of the club long term, will want and need to fix.
