Manchester United loanee Marcus Rashford has hailed his display against Olympiacos as his best one yet for Barcelona.
Rashford dazzles against Olympiacos
Rashford netted a sensational brace as Barcelona put Olympiacos to the sword in a 6-1 Champions League thrashing on Tuesday.
Fermin Lopez scored a hat-trick, but Rashford was equally impactful, producing two top-class finishes to secure the Blaugrana their second victory in the competition this season.
Rashford also won a penalty, which Lamine Yamal dutifully dispatched.
The Carrington academy graduate has now scored five goals and registered a further five assists in 11 appearances for Barcelona.
He has the joint-most goal contributions in the Champions League alongside Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe and Newcastle forward Anthony Gordon.
After the final whistle at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys, Rashford spoke to UEFA.com and gave his verdict on his performance.
Rashford rates his display vs. Olympiacos
He said [as quoted by Fotmob], “It could be my best performance with Barca.”
“I’m ready to bring out the best in me, for the team. I prefer to play on the wing, but I don’t care. I intend to help and do the best I can. The Clasico is a great game and that’s why I’ve come here, for this number of games. I am looking forward to it, I hope we win.”
The England international continued, “This is a very good team to enjoy your football in. I’m pleased with the performance today, especially in the second half. Even though it was obviously difficult for them with 10 men, we used the spaces better and our timing was better.”
“The manager is very demanding of us. The intensity is one of the main things. Not only the intensity but the intent to go and score goals; this is what we need to kill teams off.”
“Of course, we’re going to come up against teams where it is difficult to break them down, but with this team, we have so many goals coming from different areas of the pitch.”
Rashford stressed the importance of building on the positives gained against Olympiacos.
