Manchester United Women made it two wins from two in the League Cup as we beat Everton 2-0 at Walton Hall Park.
It was a night which saw Marc Skinner make several changes and hand debuts to two stars who have come back from serious knee injuries – Emma Watson and Jess Simpson.
Anna Sandberg also impressed on her first start as the Reds put in a near-flawless performance.
A first-half own goal followed by a Maya Le Tissier volley in the second sealed the points in Merseyside, as United sit top of our group with one game left to play.
A fabulous team effort made the poll tough for United fans and three standout individual displays were separated by just two points at the top.
Maya Le Tissier putting in a captain’s performance just edged the result, as our no.4 earned a majority 17 per cent of the vote.
The England international commanded the Reds for the full 90 minutes, but it was her goal which really impressed, as she brought the ball down before powering it into the net, leaving goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan with no chance of saving it.
Coming a close second was Melvine Malard, who thought she had got the last touch on our opening goal before it was awarded as an own goal.
Hayley Ladd delivered the corner which Brosnan spilled into the path of Malard, but it was deemed to have gone over the line before the French forward got a touch.
However, our no.9 created plenty more chances and caused the Everton defence a lot of problems, to claim 16 per cent of the vote.
Meanwhile, Hayley Ladd completed the top three, coming third with 15 per cent of the vote after a strong performance from the off in midfield.
Congratulations to Maya on a deserved Player of the Match award, and thank you to everyone who got involved.
