“confirmation-soon”:-ex-man-united-interim-boss-van-nistelrooy-set-to-become-leicester-city-manager-–-report

Former Manchester United striker and interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy is reportedly set to be appointed as the next Leicester City manager.

Following the sacking of Erik ten Hag late last month, assistant coach Van Nistelrooy stepped up in a caretaker capacity as United went about the business of securing Ruben Amorim’s services from Sporting Lisbon.

With Van Nistelrooy in the dugout, United went unbeaten, winning three games and drawing once. Two of his wins came against Leicester City, in the Carabao Cup and the Premier League.

On several occasions, the legendary Dutch talisman expressed an interest in remaining at Old Trafford and becoming part of Amorim’s backroom staff but that was not to be.

He parted ways with the club earlier this month, immediately after Amorim’s official arrival. It’s understood that Amorim was keen on starting afresh with his own people.

Van Nistelrooy has since been linked to a number of managerial roles including Coventry City, Burnley, Hamburg and of course, Leicester.

The Telegraph now reveal that the 48-year-old is on the brink of being named as Steve Cooper’s successor at the King Power Stadium. Journalist John Percy says that he is “expecting confirmation soon.”

Percy and Sam Wallace state, “Ruud van Nistelrooy is close to making a swift Premier League return as the manager of Leicester City.”

“The Manchester United legend has held extensive talks with the Leicester hierarchy this week and is set to be confirmed as the replacement for Steve Cooper, who was sacked by the strugglers on Sunday afternoon.”

“Van Nistelrooy is crucially available with no compensation after recently leaving United.”

“Leicester have discussed the post with the 48-year-old and, while the club’s hierarchy has been determined to explore a number of options, could appoint the former Netherlands international before the trip to Brentford on Saturday.”

The Telegraph point out that the Foxes spoke to other candidates including Graham Potter and David Moyes but they were ruled out in favour of hiring Van Nistelrooy.
