Toby Collyer is hoping for more Manchester United starts under Ruben Amorim after being included in the XI for the first time under the head coach.
The young midfielder has been gaining in experience and was selected alongside Christian Eriksen for the visit of Rangers in the Europa League.
An accomplished performance helped the Reds pull off an eventual 2-1 victory and the 21-year-old grew in stature as the game wore on.
“It’s great,” he told MUTV afterwards. “I think these are the nights you dream of playing, as a kid and now as well. It’s great experience for me, great exposure and, with the players around me, they helped me through the game. So I think I was able to show some of the qualities I possess.”
In terms of his team-mates assisting and supporting his efforts, he added: “It’s so important. It makes the game so much easier when people are helping.
“Not just those two [Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen] but everyone helps me out and helps each other out, which is the main thing.”
Collyer, whose only previous full appearance came in the 7-0 win over Barnsley in the Carabao Cup this term, will hope to be involved again when the Reds head to London for Sunday’s 19:00 GMT kick-off at Fulham.
“I’m hoping for more starts,” he admitted. “We’ve definitely not had many training sessions but I think, in the ones we have had, everyone is trying to understand it [the head coach’s tactical plan] their best and make steps.
“It’s all we can do, make steps. It’s slow progress but we’ll get there in the end.”
