“Club are putting together the plans”: Skinner confirms United have opened talks with in-form star over new contract

Manchester United head coach Marc Skinner has confirmed that contract talks with in-form striker Elisabeth Terland are underway, with the club keen on extending her stay. Terland has done well at United Since joining United in the summer of 2024 from Brighton and Hove Albion, Terland has consistently come up with the goods for the club in front of goal. She plundered an impressive 10 goals in 20 WSL appearances last season, helping the Reds to a third-placed finish. Terland has started the 2025/26 campaign in sublime fashion. The Norwegian has already netted nine goals across all competitions. Ahead of this weekend’s meeting with Aston Villa, Skinner was asked about Terland’s future. Her current terms are set to expire in the summer. Skinner told reporters that talks between Terland’s camp and United over a new contract have commenced. Skinner confirms Terland contract discussions are underway Skinner said, “I believe they’re [contract talks] underway. I believe the club are putting together the plans and stuff to renew a few players as well.” “So we’re looking at obviously retaining the quality that we’ve helped to produce, as well as those players taking the opportunity.” “I do believe that is under way. I think it’s maybe, hopefully, before Christmas [when] they will engage in conversation and they’ll see where they’re at.” Skinner continued, “It is under way. She [Terland] has been fantastic this season, as she has been since she’s been here. There’s a lot of love for Elisabeth here and I hope that we can retain her services and help her build to the target she wants to achieve, as well as we do.” Asked whether an announcement is imminent, Skinner answered, “Sorry, no. [I meant] to have been started with the representatives. So the phase was working up to the summer window that we were looking at recruitment in. Then you look at during this period here, recruitment in for the winter window, to which we’ve just welcomed, another head of recruitment for us in Matthew Lee.” “So he’s coming in to do that and then during this period, Matt [Johnson] and the team above will be looking at the contracts we want to renew and looking at a plan and structure for those.” Skinner insisted that he doesn’t know when a breakthrough will be reached but he remains optimistic that Terland’s future will be secured.
