CL club pushing to sign United star, ruthless Ineos have already opened talks with his replacement – Di Marzio

Manchester United have already identified Andre Onana’s possible replacement amid uncertainty over the Cameroonian’s future.

Onana was one of United’s biggest underperformers during the 2024/25 campaign, leaving fans and pundits alike frustrated with his poor positioning and lack of box dominance.

Still, the Red Devils have so far shown little desperation to offload him, partly because he only moved to Old Trafford in the summer of 2023 and there’s acceptance it is going to be very difficult to make any profit on his sale.

United signed the ex-Ajax star from Inter Milan in a deal worth around £47 million.

However, AS Monaco’s transfer plans might spark a major change in United’s goalkeeping department.

Earlier today, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming the Principality outfit, who have qualified for next season’s Champions League, are eyeing a summer swoop for the 29-year-old.

Now, reputed Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio suggests the same, stating the Ligue 1 side have made an enquiry for the United number one.

Di Marzio further reveals that the Premier League giants already have Onana’s potential successor in their sights.

It is understood United like the profile of Marco Carnesecchi, who has enjoyed a solid campaign between the sticks for Atalanta. He kept 13 clean sheets in 34 Serie A appearances last term.

The Red Devils have allegedly made “first contacts” with the 24-year-old Italian’s agent.

Talks are yet to be opened with Atalanta, who don’t want to sell Carnesecchi this summer, unless they receive a “truly satisfactory” proposal.

In their search for a new shot-stopper, Monaco interestingly also showed interest in ex-United star David de Gea, who is currently plying his trade in Florence at Fiorentina.
