The third day of this year’s SuperCupNI rounded out the group stage for Manchester United’s three teams.

Going into their final group matches, all of the United sides had a chance of advancing but the Girls Premier group required results elsewhere to go their way for a chance to qualify for the SuperCupNI finals.

Boys Premier (u16s) vs County Tyrone

Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick were present to watch on the boys u16s take on County Tyrone with both of their sons in the team.

Needing just a draw to secure top spot in the group, United fielded a much changed side to the opening two matches including a start for u14s Jaice Dore.

With County Tyrone sitting back for much of the match there was little in the way of chances to threaten at either end of the pitch.

Further changes at the break saw Jacey Carrick, son of Michael, sport the captain’s armband for the second half as he controlled proceedings from deep in midfield just like his father.

The match ultimately ended a dull 0-0 with neither side really finding their groove.

One point was enough to place United top of the group though, qualifying them for the semi-finals where they take on County Down. The opposite semi-final features Southampton vs Hamilton Academical, the latter of which United defeated 5-0 when they met in last year’s competition.

Girls Junior (u16s) vs Crusaders

United’s u14s girls crushed Crusaders with a resounding 9-0 victory.

Finishing the group stage with three wins in three and a goal difference of +20, the young reds thoroughly deserved their spot in the final, where they will take on USA club Surf Select who finished second in the table which consisted of six teams.

Girls Premier (u16s) vs Northern Ireland

The u16s girls meanwhile took on a tough Northern Ireland in their home venue.

United took the lead early though through Summer Hadfield before Grace Taylor doubled the lead with a long range effort.

Northern Ireland pulled one back before Hadfield scored her second with an excellently executed lobbed finish into the far corner over the keeper to secure a 3-1 win for United.

Unfortunately the win wasn’t enough to earn the Red Devils a spot in the final as they finished second in the group. They will still take to the field on Thursday, though, as they battle with Aston Villa for the third place spot.
