BACK Man Utd forward Bryan Mbeumo says he has taken plenty of inspiration from former Chelsea star Eden Hazard. Speaking about which players he liked to watch, Mbeumo said he has always enjoyed looking at clips of the Belgian in action: “I was watching his highlights almost every single time I could. For me, he’s just so good, SO good. “He could run past people so easily, great finishing, great passing, and obviously, the way he could turn himself or just drive at people was INSANE…” How does Mbeumo compare to Hazard statistically? The United star has 84 goal contributions in 162 Premier League appearances across his spells with Brentford and the Red Devils. That means, on average, he has scored or provided an assist every 2.93 matches. Hazard, meanwhile, had 141 goal involvements across 245 games in England’s top flight, which gives him an average of 1 in 1.74. It means Mbeumo has still got some way to go if he wants to match his hero’s performances in the Premier League, but his numbers are not far off. Will he justify his £71m price tag at Man Utd? It is fair to say that Mbeumo has had an erratic first season at Old Trafford. He looked very impressive at times before Christmas, and he came back from the African Cup of Nations in great form. However, he has lost his edge over the last two months. The 26-year-old has failed to score in his last six appearances, although he has contributed a couple of assists during that period. Mbeumo has arguably more to do if he is to justify the money shelled out on him last summer, but unlike other past signings, he has embraced the pressure that comes with wearing the United shirt, and that bodes well for the future.
