Bryan Mbeumo admits United’s 6’4 colossus has shocked him the most, fans would never guess who it is

Manchester United star Bryan Mbeumo has revealed why Joshua Zirkzee is the teammate who has taken him aback the most. Mbeumo makes Zirkzee claim Mbeumo has seamlessly slotted into life at United since joining the club last summer from Brentford in a deal worth around £70m. He arrived with big expectations following a 2024/25 season in which he plundered a career-high 20 Premier League goals. In 22 top-flight appearances so far for United, the Cameroonian has managed nine goals while providing an additional three assists. Mbeumo has emerged as United’s leading scorer, quickly winning over the fanbase with his talismanic form in front of goal. Sitting down with club media alongside Zirkzee, he was asked which teammate has surprised him the most. The 26-year-old answered, “This guy on my left.” “To be honest, I’m not watching football a lot, so obviously, when I joined, I knew the players.” “But I didn’t know really how they were playing and I was really impressed with Josh because he’s a lot more skilful than I would have thought, with the ball and he can just hold the ball very easy with his body and a good strike.” Zirkzee uncertainty Mbeumo’s revelation comes amidst uncertainty over Zirkzee’s future at Old Trafford. He struggled for consistent playing time under Ruben Amorim, and this trend has carried forward since Michael Carrick’s appointment as caretaker boss. Zirkzee has been afforded just 11 minutes across four of the six matches that Carrick has taken charge of. It’s understood that the Netherlands international was weighing up his options ahead of the winter window and is likely to do so again in the summer, unless his situation improves or he receives guarantees over his future. A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that a return to Italy is on the cards, with Juventus leading the charge for his signature. Meanwhile, United return to action on Sunday when they host Crystal Palace.
