Bruno Fernandes says Manchester United must be ready to do battle with Manchester City in order to garner a result at the Etihad Stadium.
The Reds are looking to pip Pep Guardiola’s side to victory this afternoon, having most recently seen off the challenge of Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League on Thursday.
But our next task brings a much tougher challenge in the way of the reigning Premier League champions, with new head coach Ruben Amorim preparing for his first taste of a Manchester derby.
Bruno, who has 15 goal contributions to his name already this season, admitted earlier this week that City’s threats must be managed in the right kind of way if United want to be successful.
“It doesn’t change anything for us because we have to think about ourselves,” said Fernandes when speaking to The National on Thursday evening.
“We all know that this is a huge game and they have huge players; they’re probably not winning as much as everyone would expect them to do.
“But we must focus on ourselves because we’re not being at the level we want to be also, so we can’t think about the momentum of the others.”
City’s poor form of late has been well documented, but Fernandes insisted that the recent dip in performances from our crosstown rivals is none of his concern.
“We know it’s City, huge derby,” added our no.8.
“We know what it means for the fans and it means a lot for us too, so we just must go to the game and win without thinking about who we have ahead.”
