United in pole position to sign electric German forward, could be perfect fit for Amorim’s system – report

Given the lack of goals up front and inconsistency out wide, it is easy to figure out that Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim is desperate for more firepower up front.

Given Amad’s season-ending injury and Alejandro Garnacho’s poor form, the Portuguese head coach could do with a versatile wide option.

Especially with Marcus Rashford and Antony both likely to depart in the summer. Matheus Cunha has been mentioned as a possible option with the Brazilian capable of slotting in at different positions. But his price could prove prohibitive.

Fichajes have now added Karim Adeyemi’s name to list with the German capable of playing on either flank and even up front on his own.

Adeyemi fits United’s profile

The 23-year-old has struggled with injuries this season but has still managed eight goals and five assists in 17 starts across all competitions.

His goal against Lille in the Champions League Round of 16 on Tuesday was a strike to behold and exactly why he is so highly-rated with Napoli trying their best to secure his signature in January.

His speed, skill and creativity are top-notch and given the club’s poor form in the Bundesliga this season and the likelihood of there being no European football at the Westfalenstadion, Dortmund could be open to his sale.

“Karim Adeyemi could be living out his final months at Borussia Dortmund. The German striker has attracted interest from several top-level teams in Europe, and Manchester United are the best-placed club to sign him.

“His speed, dribbling and ability to make a difference in one-on-one situations make him a highly sought-after profile in the transfer market, which has led to multiple entities closely following his situation.

Dortmund open to selling

“Dortmund are aware that retaining the young talent will not be an easy task. Although his performance has been inconsistent at times this season, he remains a key part of the German team’s scheme. However, the possibility of making a big sale and reinvesting in other reinforcements has led the club to open the door to a possible exit in the next transfer window.

“In England, the Red Devils are looking to boost their attack with dynamic and promising players. Adeyemi fits the profile that the Old Trafford club wants to bring in, and his signing would represent a bet on youth and speed in the attacking front.”

Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are also chasing the Germany U21 international while Napoli may yet return to the race in the summer.

Adeyemi’s contract is valid until 2027 and he has a market value of €35 million, an affordable solution given the financial reality around Old Trafford.

Official: United name weakened travelling squad due to injuries, Amorim inexplicably overlooks youth yet again

Manchester United announced their 18-man travelling squad ahead of their all-important Europa League Round of 16 first leg against Real Sociedad.

The list does not include Harry Maguire and Manuel Ugarte, both of whom were not seen in training earlier on Wednesday. The England international had limped off during the FA Cup tie against Fulham.

This is a huge blow given Lisandro Martinez is already out for the season but as has been the norm throughout the campaign, Ruben Amorim will have to cope somehow.

The exact nature of the Uruguayan’s injury remains unknown. Thankfully, Toby Collyer, who had missed the last four games, has returned from injury and has been included in the squad.

Dorgu back in the squad

Patrick Dorgu, who was suspended for the Fulham game after picking up a red card against Ipswich Town, is eligible for the game set to be held at Reale Arena and has travelled with the team.

Chido Obi, as previously revealed, is not eligible for the competition and has thus missed out. There is a place for Ayden Heaven, who made his United debut on Sunday.

Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton are yet to return from injury and Dermot Mee and Elyh Harrison have been chosen as the backup goalkeepers with Andre Onana expected to start.

Among academy talents, there is also a place for Harry Amass, who was sensational in the recent FA Youth Cup victory for the U18s against Arsenal.

But once again, Amorim has picked a weakened squad with hardly any scope for substitutions. He surely could have picked a 25-man squad even if just to make up the numbers.

Lack of youngsters

Plenty of academy talents have impressed in recent weeks like Jaydan Kamason, Jack Fletcher, Jack Moorhouse, James Scanlon, and Sekou Kone just to name a few.

He has observed them in training and surely a place on the bench or even as part of the travelling squad would have done wonders for their confidence.

Amorim’s words, his body language and now squad selection are not exactly instilling confidence among the fanbase ahead of what is perhaps the biggest game of the season for the Red Devils.

Official travelling squad

Andre Onana, Dermot Mee, Elyh Harrison; Harry Amass, Diogo Dalot, Matthijs de Ligt, Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu, Ayden Heaven, Victor Lindelof, Noussair Mazraoui, Leny Yoro; Casemiro, Toby Collyer, Christian Eriksen, Bruno Fernandes; Alejandro Garnacho, Rasmus Hojlund, Joshua Zirkzee.

Liverpool: Arne Slot handed clear path to sign a Fabrizio Romano ‘one to watch’ after price tag reveal

Liverpool are preparing to make a move for Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez, with the Hungarian international expected to leave the Cherries this summer.

The 21-year-old has impressed under Andoni Iraola this season, playing a key role in Bournemouth’s push for European football this season, contributing two goals and four assists in 27 Premier League appearances.

His attacking output, combined with his defensive reliability, makes him a hot full-back property and Bournemouth are well aware of Kerkez’s growing value, setting a price tag in excess of £40m.

Fabrizio Romano confirmed Manchester United are not among his suitors despite January links after Patrick Dorgu joined from Lecce in the winter window and became the latest signing to fall into the pit of despair at Old Trafford.

That leaves the path open for Liverpool, who are looking to reinforce their left-back options, with Andy Robertson struggling for form in the first half of the season.

The Scottish defender has been a vital player for Liverpool over the years, but his performances have dipped, prompting the club to seek potential replacements.

Arne Slot has done an impressive job with the squad left behind by Jurgen Klopp, but he is expected to make changes this summer.

Liverpool’s only major signing since his arrival has been Federico Chiesa for £10m and he is yet to make any impact at Anfield. The club is now thought to be prioritising defensive reinforcements, with Kerkez emerging as a serious target.

According to transfer expert Romano, Liverpool are among several clubs monitoring Kerkez ahead of the summer window. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano confirmed:

“Liverpool are tracking the player. Liverpool have been monitoring the player and Milos Kerkez will be in the list of several clubs including–but not only–Liverpool. For sure, (he) will be one to watch in the summer transfer window.”

Even though there is a hefty price tag, Liverpool may have the upper hand when it comes to negotiations as sporting director Richard Hughes was a former technical director at Bournemouth and knows Kerkez well, having signed him for Bournemouth from AZ Alkmaar for £15.5m in July 2023. It’s thought he could play a key role in bringing the Hungarian to Anfield.

With Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas both failing to impress consistently, Liverpool want to add competition at left-back.

As the summer transfer window approaches, Liverpool are among the frontrunners for Kerkez’s signature, but will they pay the asking price for a position that is priority or will they look elsewhere as they will likely face competition from other top European clubs?

Man Utd flop ‘disagrees’ with ‘superficial’ Amorim claim amid ‘truth’ on two reasons for transfer disaster

Antony’s agent has hit back at Ruben Amorim after the Manchester United head coach revealed one reason for his struggles at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils paid around £86m to sign Antony from Dutch giants Ajax during the 2022 summer transfer window, which contributes to them being second in our Premier League net spend table

Erik ten Hag made Antony his priority target ahead of his first season at Man Utd, and they massively overpaid to sign the Brazil international.

Antony struggled to adapt to life at Man Utd and fell in the pecking order ahead of this season. He failed to make a single Premier League start in 2024/25 before he joined Real Betis on loan in January.

The 25-year-old has been a revelation at Real Betis, contributing three goals and two assists in his seven appearances across all competitions.

When asked why Antony is thriving at Real Betis after failing at Man Utd, Amorim claimed “physicality” was the main reason for his woes.

“When you play against any team in England, the physicality is there. If you don’t have physicality, you will struggle a lot,” Amorim claimed.

READ: Manchester United, Amorim, Arsenal and West Ham feature heavily in ten biggest cock-ups this season

“Antony is so much better now in Spain. It’s [because of] a lot of factors but I guarantee you it’s physicality.”

Now, Antony’s agent – Junior Pedroso – has hit out at Amorim’s “very superficial argument” and revealed the “truth” on his struggle at Man Utd.

“We respect the opinion of coach Ruben Amorim, but we completely disagree with his analysis. To attribute Antony’s lack of success at Manchester United solely to the question of physicality is a very superficial argument and does not reflect reality,” Pedroso said.

“The truth is that Antony has not had enough prominence or the confidence necessary to play his best football. Of the 15 games in which Amorim managed Manchester United, he only used Antony in nine, with a total of 252 minutes played.

“This represents only 18.6% of the total possible minutes (1,350 minutes). How can you judge an athlete without a minimum sequence to prove his worth?”

👉 Man Utd target Maignan put ‘on diet’ after being deemed ‘too overweight’ by ‘desperate’ manager
👉 Amorim ‘tells friends’ he ‘made a mistake taking Man Utd job’ and is ‘shocked by how bad the players are’

Pedroso continued: “The manager’s statement, although perhaps it was not his intention, ends up devaluing La Liga and the Spanish competitions.

“Spanish football has one of the most competitive leagues in the world, with top-level teams that constantly compete in the final stages of the Champions League and the Europa League.

“The reality is that Antony, since he arrived at Real Betis, has become one of the best players in the team and in the competition itself, demonstrating his full potential when given the right conditions to develop his game.

“This highlights that the problem was not the physicality, but the context and the way he was managed in Manchester.

“Many players who do not prosper at United find success at other clubs, which leads us to wonder if the problem really lies with the players.”

Man Utd: Mainoo wage demands less ‘ridiculous’ than turning down £70m

Kobbie Mainoo is not a generational talent and Man Utd should take the money for both him and Alejandro Garnacho if it is offered in the summer.

The ever-thirsty Mark Goldbridge has deemed it “ridiculous” that Kobbie Mainoo has asked Manchester United for wages of £180,000 a week, but in truth it would be ridiculous if the England midfielder’s agent had not pointed at Casemiro and mouthed the words ‘is my man not worth half of that?’. United are perhaps lucky Mainoo has not asked for more than parity with Harry Maguire.

But does that mean United should not sell Mainoo? Does that mean he should be deemed unsellable or untouchable? Quite apart from the fact that in these PSR-influenced times, no player should be deemed unsellable (even Arsenal would not dismiss a £200m bid for Bukayo Saka), Mainoo is not a generational talent; being among the finest players to emerge from the Manchester United Academy over the last five years says more about their broken system than his brilliance.

Mainoo is not an elite central midfielder – we saw as much in the Euro 2024 final – as he lacks the discipline, composure and physicality for the role. Perhaps that will come – he is still only 19 – but Ruben Amorim rightfully has no trust in him as part of a double pivot. He pointedly said Mainoo was “struggling a lot defending” before moving him further forward to flourish in a more advanced role against poor opposition in the Europa League.

But back on home soil, he struggled as a striker against Crystal Palace and then against Leicester in the FA Cup as one of the No. 10s. None of the roles in Amorim’s preferred system particularly suit Mainoo. He is an undisciplined, ball-carrying midfielder and if Chelsea or any other club wants to meet United’s supposed asking price of £70-80m (pure profit) for an undisciplined, ball-carrying midfielder, dismissing that offer would be far more ridiculous than any wage demands.

We are repeatedly told that Manchester United need to sell before they can buy this summer, and this is not a squad awash with valuable assets. United are actually lucky that three of their most sellable players are also Academy products. And by coincidence, none are stalwarts in Amorim’s first-choice line-up. Put like that, taking £70-80m for Mainoo, similar for Alejandro Garnacho and another £40m for Marcus Rashford, feels like a no-brainer.

The only argument against the sales of Mainoo and Garnacho – apart from misty-eyed talk of once again building around Academy players, one of whom is a Madrid-born Argentine international – is fear of them thriving elsewhere. But that’s just not how more recently successful clubs operate, with Manchester City taking money for Cole Palmer and Liam Delap, and Chelsea accepting Atletico Madrid cash for Conor Gallagher.

Garnacho could thrive in a system that needs a chalk-hugging winger who cannot finish his dinner and Mainoo may well blossom alongside a genuine defensive midfielder ahead of a solid back four that needs little protection, but clinging on to ill-suited players because fear of their success outweighs your own fear of failure is ludicrous.

Having said there was only one argument against selling the pair for sizeable fees, there is an enormous elephant in the room. Would you trust this version of Manchester United to sensibly spend a potential £150m? A ranking of their incomings post-Fergie is a largely miserable list of wasted money, potential or both.

Liverpool rebuilt their entire midfield – the foundations for a very likely Premier League title – for less than £150m but would you trust Manchester United to spend even half as wisely? Or spend at all in light of money saved by soup and vouchers?

But the truth is that unless United spin that wheel, they will start next season with this same squad of players ill-suited to both Amorim’s system and the upper reaches of the Premier League. And that really would be ridiculous.

United fast-track “Kid Messi” up two age brackets, is said to be “heir to Cristiano Ronaldo’s throne” – report

Manchester United’s reputation for developing stars from their academy is famed around the world with multiple young prodigies realising their dreams at Old Trafford.

Progression to this year’s Youth Cup semi-final is a sure sign United have another talented group at under-18 level and it appears another wonderkid is rising through the ranks at the club.

As reported by The Express, 14-year-old JJ Gabriel has been promoted to the under-18 set-up with the world’s best keeping tabs on his development.

The name of Joseph Junior Andreou Gabriel might not be a recognisable one just yet but hopes are extremely high for the winger who has been tipped to reach the heights of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Global mega brand Nike have already signed the youngster on a deal believed to be one of the most lucrative for any footballer of his age in the history of the game.

The Express states Nike’s presentation to help convince the player to join them included a slide with the line “JJ can be Nike’s next in line for Ronaldo’s throne”.

Furthermore, discussions have taken place on how big a role Gabriel could play in the future of Nike with rumours the young man could become the face of their Mercurial brand in the coming years.

After catching the eye on YouTube with a video that branded him ‘Kid Messi’, Gabriel moved to United and has made an immediate impact in the youth ranks.

The forward has scored 15 goals and provided six assists in 13 appearances so far this season, all for higher age groups than he would naturally play in.

Whilst United are in the driving seat to eventually tie him down to a professional contract, teams around the world are closely monitoring Gabriel’s story and will be ready to pounce if he decides his future lies outside of Manchester.

Gabriel was born in London but snubbed his local sides in favour of hopefully making it at the Theatre of Dreams, something United will be desperate for him to do over the course of his career.

With such an exciting prospect on their hands, United will be keen to ensure Gabriel positively navigates these crucial next few years which could make or break his future in the game.

No doubt Ruben Amorim will be aware of the young man and will be keeping a keen eye on his development through the youth ranks which now looks set to be with the under-18 squad.

United prepared for vicious dogfight to land dream target who Fabrizio Romano says “will 100% leave” in the summer

Manchester United target Angel Gomes “will 100% leave” his current club at the end of the season according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

The 24-year-old left United in 2020 and has come on leaps and bounds since, establishing himself as a key player for Lille.

But his contract with the Ligue 1 side expires at the end of the campaign and Romano has confirmed what has long been suspected, that he will certainly leave and be available for free in the summer.

As per GIVEMESPORT, the Italian journalist said: “Yes, Premier League is a possibility for Angel Gomes while also clubs in the Bundesliga asked for information to his new agents. He will 100% leave Lille.”

With belts tightening across Europe, quality players available without a transfer fee to pay will inevitably be at the centre of an aggressive tug-of-war between budget-conscious clubs.

United’s financial issues are generating almost as many headlines as their on-field performances, so reinforcing the midfield with an energetic and creative player available for free would tick all the boxes.

Manager Ruben Amorim is reportedly keen on bringing Gomes back to Old Trafford as he looks to bolster his options in the middle of the park.

Injuries to the likes of Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte has forced the Portuguese to turn to 33-year-olds Casemiro and Christian Eriksen, who are ill-suited to the intense style of play their manager demands.

But Gomes to United is far from a done deal, with a multitude of other clubs vying for the player’s signature.

The report names West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa as contenders, with each likely to have differing appeals to the midfielder who may not necessarily join the Red Devils as a first-choice option.

And Romano’s revelation that there is also interest from Bundesliga clubs just serves to make the task even more difficult for a club desperate to squeeze every ounce of value out of the summer market.

Gomes has played 134 times for Lille and earned an England call-up last year under interim manager Lee Carsley.
