‘Blowing’ Arsenal teen and Man Utd target in Premier League uncapped XI

Ethan Nwaneri is in the best uncapped Premier League XI even at the age of 17, alongside a Frenchman who dreams of more than the Olympics.

GOALKEEPER: Mads Hermansen (Leicester City, not Denmark)
One of the Premier League’s better goalkeepers so far this season, Hermansen has sat on the Denmark bench 24 times over the last two years and largely watched Kasper Schmeichel and occasionally Union Berlin’s Frederik Rønnow. Equalling a Premier League record with 13 saves v Arsenal should make his case for at least a Nations League bow. Come on Lars Knudsen, have a heart.

RIGHT-BACK: Aaron Wan-Bissaka (West Ham, not England or DR Congo)
Almost six years after his first and only England call-up, Wan-Bissaka might finally get a second after finding form and consistency once again at West Ham after five seasons at Manchester United in which his confidence was eroded. He could always tackle but is now a more-than-adept attacking option at full-back or wing-back. It’s time.

CENTRE-BACK: Sven Botman (Newcastle United, not Netherlands)
After finally making it back to the Dutch bench in 2023 – after almost three years – for the Nations League finals, Botman’s knee has largely kept him out since. Even Brighton’s Jan Paul van Hecke has been capped while Botman has been sidelined.

CENTRE-BACK: Murillo (Nottingham Forest, not Brazil)
“I’m taking it in quite slowly but it has always been my dream to play for the Brazil national team ever since I was playing at youth level. I will leave that to the hands of God. If the call-up comes, I will grab it with teeth and nails.”

The call-up did eventually come and he grabbed it, but he sat on the bench as Brazil drew two games 1-1, with Arsenal’s Gabriel partnering Marquinhos in his stead.

LEFT-BACK: Djed Spence (Tottenham, not England)
As we asked in February: Would Gareth Southgate have packed in the England job had he known that Djed Spence was mere months away from metamorphosing into the right-back-at-left-back of his wildest dreams? He surely would not. But nor could Southgate, or indeed any of us, have seen this coming.

CENTRAL MIDFIELD: Elliot Anderson (Nottingham Forest, not England or Scotland)
A PSR sale by Newcastle United last summer, but Anderson is now bound for the Champions League with Nottingham Forest after an absolutely stellar season that has seen him start every Premier League game since early December. He has previously been called up by Scotland but four recent appearances for England’s Under-21s suggest that the Englishman regards himself as English.

CENTRAL MIDFIELD: Harvey Elliott (Liverpool, not England)
It’s got to sting a little that Curtis Jones has edged ahead of him when Elliott is probably the more purely talented footballer, but the uncomfortable truth is that he has not started a single Premier League game this season for the champions-elect. Should he exit Liverpool this summer? We suspect it would be best for both club and player.

RIGHT WING: Ethan Nwaneri (Arsenal, not England)
The last time a full England squad was named, Nwaneri was yet to start a Premier League game and he was more than happy to take the England Under-19 call and score two goals. Now he is so established – in the absence of Bukayo Saka – that he was rested for the second leg of a Champions League knock-out clash. There has been A Clamour, but the sensible road would surely be to put the brakes on for now. He is only 17 and, as Martin Keown says, he is “blowing”.

ATTACKING MIDFIELD: Dwight McNeil (Everton, not England)
When fit, he was creating chances at the same rate as Cole Palmer – and more impressively than Phil Foden – this season, but McNeil has been sidelined since early December with a knee injury.

LEFT WING: Jacob Ramsey (Aston Villa, not England)
Unai Emery started that Champions League win over actual Bayern Munich with an English front four of Ramsey, Rogers and Jaden Philogene behind Ollie Watkins. “He is a potentially big, big player in Aston Villa and England,” says Emery, who ensured the club resisted attention from Newcastle and Tottenham in the summer as they eyed a PSR bargain. But since then he has brought in Marcus Rashford, who is probably more likely to get the call from Tuchel.

STRIKER: Jean-Philippe Mateta (Crystal Palace, not France)
He played for France (and thrived) at the Olympics and then appealed to actual French boss Didier Deschamps in September, saying: “It’s always been in my head. It’s a childhood dream. It’s the jersey I want to wear.”

Deschamps has so far resisted even as Mateta has scored 12 Premier League goals; in his slight defence, he has a few middling options like Kylian Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele, Marcus Thuram and Randal Kolo Muani at his disposal. Spoilsport.

As for Mateta…Manchester United could do a lot worse.

“They have so much quality…”: Dorgu raves about two unstoppable United teammates after 4-1 demolition of Sociedad

Manchester United defender Patrick Dorgu praised Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro, following the team’s 4-1 victory over Real Sociedad on Thursday night.

After Mikel Oyarzabal struck first via an early penalty, United seized control of the game, with Fernandes scoring twice from the penalty spot on 16 and 50 minutes before he produced a superb strike to complete his hat-trick.

Diogo Dalot then found the back of the net in added time, keeping alive United’s hopes of clinching some silverware this term.

Despite not getting on the score sheet, Dorgu was sensational, the highlight of his game being winning the hosts’ second penalty of the evening.

After the final whistle, the former Bologna man spoke to MUTV and gave his verdict on the result and performance.

“Yeah, finally and very good to get it in front of the home crowd and Old Trafford was really good, really good atmosphere and it was a good win.”

Asked how important it is to have him as an outlet down the left, Dorgu answered, “I think it’s important for the whole team to bring energy. Obviously I brought a lot today but I think the whole team was full of energy from the first minute.”

“You could already hear from the crowd as well that everyone was up for it.”

“I think after we scored 3-1 the game was much open and much easier to play. When we play with good teammates and they can find you in behind at the feet it’s easy to play.”

Dorgu said about playing with Fernandes and Casemiro, “It’s obviously nice to play with these players. They have so much quality on the ball. It’s easy for other players to connect with them.”

The 20-year-old explained that he just keeps making the runs in the hope that Fernandes and Casemiro will find him.

Dorgu had a few cracks at goal against Sociedad but unfortunately, couldn’t find the back of the net.

Asked if he’ll continue shooting, he joked, “I think Bruno needs to teach me a little bit but it’ll come, it’ll come soon.”

United will face Lyon in the quarter-finals, with the first leg in France on 10 April before the return at Old Trafford a week later.

Ruben says Dorgu did ‘the right thing’

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has praised Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu for his honesty during our 4-1 Europa League success over Real Sociedad.

The Reds booked a place in the last eight of the competition thanks to a 5-2 aggregate win over the Basque outfit, with our winter-window signing in fine form.

Dorgu was an ever-present threat down the left flank and could have netted his first goal for the club, while also forcing the red card for Jon Aramburu.

After earlier earning a penalty, Dorgu was hauled down for a second time, by Hamari Traore to seemingly earn the Reds a third spot-kick, only for his honesty to get the better of him.

Amorim discussed the matter in his post-match press conference, among other things, and below you can read everything he had to say…

I want to ask about Patrick Dorgu and his performance, he seems to have good end product and also the fact he was telling the referee he didn’t think it was a penalty that he’d won, so as a manager, do you like to see that?

“It depends. It is the right thing to do. So I am quite proud of him, but it depends. I cannot say if it is 0-0 or we are losing, if I would have the same response! So he did well. He did a great performance and he was improving during the game. He is learning a lot in that position. He has that physicality and he is clearly able to be able to play in our league. So it was a good game and it was a good action from Dorgu.”

We speak a lot about Bruno Fernandes, people criticise him, as you’ve said before. Today, when you are losing, and you need someone to step up, he has done it again. Can you just explain what he brings to this team?

“It is not just the team, it is the club. We have already talked a lot already about Bruno [Fernandes] and we know that sometimes he is frustrated, we know that he wants to win so bad that sometimes when the things are not [good], or we are not playing well, he is changing position and goes after the ball after the goal. Sometimes he needs to trust a little bit more in his team-mates, to allow them to do their job and also to play better. When we need him, he is always there, with set-pieces, he can bring the ball forward, he can score goals, he can make transitions, like he showed today in the last 10 minutes of the game. He is a perfect captain for our team and we need to help him win titles because he deserve a lot.”

I felt like Joshua Zirkzee has his best game for United, I do not know if you agree, but in that number-10 role it maybe seems to unleash what he can do with the ball in and out of possession. What did you think to his performance?

“He did really well and, when we lost some of the control of the game, it was our fault. I think we did a very completed exhibition, he did quite well one against one in the back, we tried to play and we showed some moments and Josh [Zirkzee] showed that, he is more aggressive when he doesn’t have the ball and he is improving without the ball. But [that] can help Joshua a lot without the ball, he has the talent. In some plays, I think he can be more direct and he has a lot of class, touching the ball but sometimes he has to think more as a striker, no matter what. It doesn’t need to be the most beautiful goal with all the control, but he is improving.”

Congratulations Ruben. Was that the most complete or best performance from your side since you have come in, given the injuries and the outside noise with everything, so how impressed are you?

“I felt, during the week, that we showed we can play these kind of games and I think our exhibition against Arsenal was not beautiful, but it helped a lot and, in that second half, we needed to believe. I felt that the team, even before the match, was full of confidence. We suffered a goal but we continued to play the same thing and that can show, since the first minute, we believe that we can go to the next stage. This is also a different competition. I think that the physicality of our team made a great difference in these two games.”

Ruben, after the first game in Spain, what have been the improvements from your team, in a tactical point of view in relation to the other games?

“We have more time to think. We usually press a little bit higher and, today, we had more time to think. We suffer a lot in some games in the league with the physicality. We felt that we could let three against three in front because we feel that, with our physicality, we can recover positions and deal with the players one against one. Everything in this game helped us to play better, with the ball and without the ball.”

Casemiro got a huge ovation as he left the pitch. What’s been behind his improvement in the last few weeks?

“I think he is improving his game and I am improving the way I should use a player like Casemiro. I am not trying to put Casemiro pressing really high. Our team, you feel, is more connected in defending, that can help a lot because he is so smart and intelligent at reading the game, in short spaces he can understand where the ball is going. It is everything together and the team is better and can play better and understand the characteristics of the players and, combined, it can help us to win games.”

‘Dorgu was everywhere!’ Video

‘Dorgu was everywhere!’

Carl Anka, journalist from The Athletic, was hugely impressed by Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu…

Congratulations. How important tonight was it to not only win the game but also for your season to stay alive?

“The feeling with the fans, the noise, it is hard to explain. You feel it with confidence from the supporters, the players and it was a really good night. We have this competition, we have the Premier League that gives us a lot of energy and confidence to go to our games. We feel we can go to the next stage and we believe we can go to another stage. This week was a different week. We dealt with a lot of problems of the present and with the future, we have showed it is not finished because we have another game on Sunday [at Leicester City]. This game today was really good for everybody in the club, the staff, the players and, especially, the fans.”

You can finally enjoy a game!

“The feeling is completely different. Not just the result, but they way we play. It is the same job but it is completely different. The good thing and the bad thing after this game is that it is over and, tomorrow, we are going to think about how Sunday is going to be hard. The next game in the Premier League.”

Can I ask you about the three penalties. Would you be angry if your team had conceded that goal?

“I have not seen the image, the last one was Patrick [Dorgu]. You will have to ask Patrick if it is not a penalty. The thing is I never speak about it, and we had the opposite, but where there is no penalty, there is no penalty. That is it and I think VAR brings more fairness to the game. But I didn’t see clearly the image.”

Video: Amorim reveals surprise secret behind United’s Europa League dominance after win vs. Sociedad

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has pinpointed his side’s physicality as the reason behind their dominance in the Europa League this season.

United thrashed 10-man Real Sociedad 4-1 at Old Trafford in their second-leg tie to secure passage to the competition’s last eight, and maintain their status as the only unbeaten team in Europe this term.

Bruno Fernandes hit a hat-trick, including two penalties, to help United ease past the Spanish outfit. Diogo Dalot also got on the score sheet, with a spectacular late finish.

The Red Devils can now look forward to a quarter-final tie against Ligue 1 club Lyon, after an extremely positive performance which kept alive their hopes of winning silverware during what has been a challenging campaign domestically.

After the win over Sociedad, Amorim spoke to TNT Sports and hailed his players’ physicality, which he said has given them a little bit of an advantage on the European stage.

“It was a complete week. We showed a little bit the future [stadium announcement], without the problems of the present and then today we had a good performance from our team.”

“I think the physicality was there and this competition is completely different. We can be the dominant team in physicality so we are learning about us in different competitions and how to win games…sometimes how to draw games to win some points.”

“It was a tough week but a good week.”

Asked whether the fact he doesn’t have a lot of players to choose from has slightly helped him and United over the past few weeks, Amorim answered, “Like I said, I’m also learning how to use players like Casemiro.”

“Like you said, without a lot of options we are trying to put our players in the best positions that help us. I think you can feel that they have more freedom and then because of one game in Spain that we tried to use the pace of Garnacho on the right and he showed me so many things on the right…”

“Maybe he’s better there than the left. So I;m trying to find the best solution for the team and that helps us to play all the time with the same team.”

“It was hard.  We lost a bit of pace at the end of games but we are learning.”

“We are learning about us, about different competitions, how to win games”

Ruben Amorim and his Man United squad are still a work in progress, but have started improving 💪

3 dribbles, 3 key passes, 100% long balls: Amorim’s new undroppable was irresistible as he bossed Real Sociedad

Manchester United produced arguably their best game under Ruben Amorim, coming back from a goal down to thrash Real Sociedad 4-1 in their Europa League Round of 16 second-leg tie at Old Trafford on Thursday.

The Red Devils won 5-2 on aggregate and set up a mouthwatering quarterfinal clash against Olympique Lyon.

The head coach will be delighted with what he saw from his side, especially the connection between Joshua Zirkzee and Patrick Dorgu.

When Alejandro Garnacho has played on that flank, he has often overlooked the Dane’s runs to try and go at it alone but not the Dutchman.

Zirkzee was superb

He often tried to link up with the pacey wingback and their great chemistry led to Jon Aramburu’s red card on the night that changed the complexion of the game.

Ever since Amorim decided to use the Netherlands international as a No 10 instead of a striker, the 23-year-old has looked like a revelation.

He dropped deep to hold on to the ball, using his quick feet to evade tackles before utilising the speed of his teammates to devastating effect.

The former Bologna ace completed three successful dribbles, the most he has enjoyed in a single game this season.

The Dutch star also had four shots in total with two of them on target while one was blocked and the other was brilliantly saved by the Spanish goalkeeper.

Turned his career around

His passing was immaculate, as the summer signing completed three key passes while creating one big chance. He was unlucky not to grab an assist with Rasmus Hojlund failing to find the back of the net from a brilliant setup.

Both of Zirkzee’s long balls attempts were successful while he also won five duels in total. He also completed one clearance (all stats via sofascore).

From that fateful night against Newcastle last year, the former Bayern Munich starlet has certainly come a long way and now he seems to be among the first names on the team-sheet.

Amorim and the United fans will be expecting a lot more from him moving forward as the Red Devils target a strong finish to what has been a disappointing campaign thus far.

Amorim demands United players help “perfect” teammate who wreaked havoc on Sociedad in superb 4-1 win

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has insisted that his players must help Bruno Fernandes win trophies, as the skipper produced another brilliant display to send his side to the quarter-finals of the Europa League as they eased past Real Sociedad.

United beat Sociedad 4-1 on Thursday evening and 5-2 on aggregate, to advance to the last eight of the competition.

The hosts fell behind just 10 minutes into proceedings after Mikel Oyarzabal converted from the spot-kick. However, their lead didn’t last for too long as Fernandes calmly rolled in two penalties and struck a superb third to secure the victory.

Diogo Dalot wrapped up the win with a brilliant finish from 15 yards after Rasmus Hojlund picked him out inside the box.

United remain the only unbeaten team in Europe this season and in the process, have kept hopes of somewhat saving their troubled season alive.

In his post-match press conference, Amorim hailed Fernandes, branding him the “perfect captain.”

Amorim told reporters, “We already spoke about Bruno a lot of times. We know sometimes he’s frustrated, we know he wants to win so badly that sometimes when we are not playing well he’s changing position and goes after the ball.”

“And sometimes he needs to trust and to allow them to do their job and to help him play better.”

“But when we need it he’s always there…set pieces, he can change position, he can bring the ball forward, he can score goals, he can make transitions like he showed today in the last ten minutes of the game, he can defend.”

“He’s a perfect captain for our team and we need to help him to win titles because he deserves a lot.”

Another player Amorim spoke about was Patrick Dorgu. The 20-year-old was a menace to Sociedad all night, wreaking havoc down the left-hand side.

Dorgu won one penalty for United and had won a second one but in an incredible and rare moment of sportsmanship, went over to the referee and told him he was not fouled. The referee proceeded to reverse his decision.

Amorim said about the January signing, “It’s the right thing to do, so I’m quite proud of him. But I can’t say if it’s 0-0 or losing if I have the same response.”

“He did well, he did a great performance, he was improving during the game, he’s learning a lot in that position, he has the physicality to play in our league, so it was a good game and a good action from Dorgu.”

The United boss added about his side’s display, “I felt during the week that we showed that we are ready for this kind of game. Our exhibition against Arsenal was not beautiful but helped us a lot, that second half helped us to believe and I felt the team was full of confidence.”

“We suffer a goal but continue to play the same thing and since the first minute, we believe we can go to the next stage. But this is also a different competition. The physicality of our team made a great difference in these two games.”

Amorim emphasised that the meeting with Lyon in the quarter-finals will be a completely different game, and the Red Devils must find a way to ease past them.

United are back in action on Sunday when they go away to the King Power Stadium to face Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Leicester City.

Video: Fernandes names “big thing” that fuelled United’s ruthless 4-1 demolition of Sociedad

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes attributed his side’s superb 4-1 win over Real Sociedad to increasing confidence within the ranks.

United beat Sociedad in the return leg of their Europa League round of 16 clash, to advance to the quarter-finals of the competition, where they will face Lyon.

Mikel Oyarzabal’s early spot-kick gave Sociedad the lead but Fernandes responded by scoring a pair of penalties before Sociedad substitute Jon Aramburu was sent off for a reckless last-man challenge on Patrick Dorgu.

Fernandes completed his hat-trick before Diogo Dalot wrapped up a 4-1 win, and 5-2 aggregate triumph.

After the final whistle, the skipper spoke to TNT Sports and gave his verdict on the result and United’s performance.

He said, “This club is all about winning and obviously we want to perform as best as we can but as I said before, it’s all about winning. We need to win games and there’s no other option in this competition.”

“We still have a long way to go but we are confident that if we focus on every game ahead, and with the right mentality, we can win games.”

On fighting back after Sociedad got an early advantage, Fernandes answered, “It was good for us because we reacted quick and you make the game equal straight away. Obviously, the penalty was a little bit unlucky but then we get our own penalty through a great ball from Casemiro and then Rasmus gets in front of the defender and is just unlucky that he falls on him, if not it will be a goal.”

“We are really happy with the performance and the win and that’s the most important thing for us.”

Asked where United’s improvement in attacking play has come from, Fernandes replied, “With the results and performances, when you start getting a little bit more confident…I think confidence is a big thing in football and I think at this club even more because you know how much you’re in the eyes of everyone, so you need to perform at the highest level.”

“But the main thing is that we have to back ourselves in the dressing room, in the training ground. Everyone has to understand that we’re here for each other.”

Fernandes added, “I think you see it [Amorim’s philosophy] at times, but not yet the way the manager wants and how we want.”

“We’re making good progress but as I said, the progress will be seen if we get results. At this club, it’s all about results. We want to perform better, we want to play better. The manager wants us to improve the way we want to play but at the same time, he wants us to win games.”

Fernandes said about Hojlund, who was a lot better tonight, “He’s a striker. Strikers are all about goals and you’re going to be criticised by scoring or not scoring from the outside world.”

“But for us in the dressing room, we want Rasmus to score as many as he can but he won us the penalty for the first goal. He did a lot of movements to attract people in my last goal…”

“So there’s a lot of thing that he does that on the outside world you probably can’t see it but we see it. We see how much he wants it to work, how much he wants to score and I’m sure the goals will come. As soon as the first one comes, they’ll start coming more and more.”

“You know how much you are on the eyes of everyone, so you need to perform at the highest level”

Ruben: I’m learning how to use Casemiro

Casemiro was given a huge round of applause when being substituted against Real Sociedad, with Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim pleased with the Brazilian’s fine current form.

The serial winner has retained his huge popularity within Old Trafford but lost his place in the XI recently, only to show his character and determination to again become an important cog in the system.

Another polished display against Real Sociedad, in the 4-1 victory that sets up a last-eight tie against Lyon in the Europa League, the 33-year-old was discussed after the game, with Ruben admitting he has had to learn how to get the best out of the South American.

“I think I’m also learning how to use players like Casemiro and, like you said, without a lot of options, we are trying to put our players in the best positions and that helps us a lot,” he told TNT Sports. “I think you can feel that they have more freedom and then because of one game in Spain that we try to use the pace of [Alejandro] Garnacho, on the right, and he showed me so many things on the right, maybe better than the left.

“So I’m trying to find the best solution for the team, and that helps us to play all the time with the same team. It was hard, sometimes we lost some pace in the end of the games, but we are learning.

“I think Casemiro gave us a little bit of calm. Sometimes, he takes a little bit long when he was not playing too much, you feel it in the game against Newcastle. The pace was not there but he is giving that first moment of build-up, and then you can push Bruno [Fernandes] near the goal, so he’s dangerous there.”

In a separate interview with beIN Sports, Amorim said he expects Casemiro to feature again, in Sunday night’s game at Leicester City, before the Premier League pauses for an international break.

“I think he showed he played really well,” the boss added. “He was so tired because of all these games and he will be ready for the next one.

“I think he did a great exhibition – not just this last game, the others too. I think he was really important in the moment for us.”

100% take-ons, 100% tackles, 100% aerial duels, 5 shots: rampant United star tore Sociedad apart in dominant win

Manchester United beat Real Sociedad 4-1 in the second leg of their Europa League round of 16 tie, to reach the competition’s last eight.

Sociedad took the lead just 10 minutes in through Mikel Oyarzabal, who converted from the penalty spot after Matthijs de Ligt was hasrshly judged to have brought him down.

However, the visitors’ advantage didn’t last for long as Bruno Fernandes restored parity, also from the spot-kick, just six minutes later. The two sides went down the tunnel with the game delicately balanced at 1-1 and 2-2 on aggregate.

United burst into the second half with relentless intensity and quickly seized control. Patrick Dorgu won the Red Devils’ second penalty of the night, and Fernandes confidently stepped up once again, sending Alex Remiro the wrong way for the second time.

The skipper completed his hat-trick with three minutes of regular time left on the clock as he fired into the bottom corner. Diogo Dalot completed the rout, finishing emphatically from 15 yards after being picked out by Rasmus Hojlund.

While he didn’t get on the score sheet, Dorgu wreaked havoc all game and was undoubtedly one of the best players on the pitch.

The Dane completed 100% of his take-ons, won 100% of his tackles and came out on top in all the aerial duels he contested.

Dorgu also won 75% of the ground duels he delved into. He constantly bombed forward to help out in the attack and registered nine touches in Sociedad’s box.

Another thing that stuck out from Dorgu’s game was how well he used his body and the incredible physicality he demonstrated. He drew an amazing six fouls.

The 20-year-old seemed determined to find the back of the net, firing five shots. He also made two clearances and of course, won United’s second penalty.

Patrick Dorgu’s game by numbers vs. Real Sociedad:

100% successful take-ons
100% tackles won
100% aerial duels won
75% ground duels won
9 touches in the opposition’s box
6 fouls won
5 shots
2 clearances
1 penalty won

Manchester United marched through to the quarter-final stage of the Europa League with a 4-1 second-leg win against Real Sociedad at Old Trafford – and one man stole the show.

Bruno Fernandes was our hat-trick hero under the floodlights in M16, levelling La Real’s opening penalty with a spot-kick of his own in the first half, before sending us into the lead, once again from 12 yards, on the other side of the interval.

His night wasn’t done, though. Running himself into the ground for the team until the very last, our captain latched onto Alejandro Garnacho’s through ball in the final few minutes of the game to extend the margin even further, before countryman Diogo Dalot notched the final goal of the game.

But with a performance like Bruno’s, there was only ever going to be one winner of our fan poll, earning a resounding 79 per cent of your votes.

But, the typical leader he is, the Portugal international was focused solely on what this result, and performance, meant for the team after the full-time whistle.

“I think confidence is a big thing in football,” Fernandes told TNT Sports. “And at this club even more, because you know how much you are on the eyes of everyone, so you need to perform always at the highest level to have your confidence.

“But the main thing is we have to back ourselves, in the dressing room, on the training ground.

“Everyone has to understand we are here for each other.”

Despite an incredible outing, the 30-year-old knows the work is only just starting.

He continued: “Yeah, I think you can see it at times [the progress]. Not yet, I think the way the manager wants and we want. We’re making very good progress, but as I said, the progress will be seen if we get results.

“This club is all about results.”

With Thursday night’s work, the midfielder certainly ticked off one result on that road to progress, and he more than earned our Man of the Match award in the process.

Congratulations, Bruno! Thank you to all those who voted.
